I'm a certified K-6 grade teacher, currently working as a librarian in an elementary school. I've taught 4th and 5th grade for 10 years, and have been in the library serving pre-kindergarten through 5th grade students for the past 2 years. I love working with all these ages and seeing their growth throughout their time in elementary school!
I've tutored multiple students in high school Spanish and some college level students. I lived in Spain for a year in college and have retained enough Spanish for basic conversations.
I've also tutored 1st/2nd graders in reading during the summer months just to keep them from losing their reading skills during the summer months. During the school year I've worked with small groups working with 3-5th graders in math helping them keep up or fill in gaps where needed.
I lived in Spain for a year during college and work in a school where I use my basic conversational Spanish daily. Because learning a language never came easy to me - even being submerged - I learned ways to teach myself "tricks" to be able to read, write and speak correctly - always connecting it back to something in English.
I have taught reading to 4th and 5th graders for 10 years. My students were not all on level when they came to me, but through small group and 1-on-1 work we would get them where they needed to be.
Truth be told I struggled in school and have learned so much from those struggles! I am a compassionate person and meet students where they are to get them where they need to be! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
