University of North Texas (Jazz Studies)
Hi there, my name is Sean! Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I am originally from Austin Texas. I grew up in a musical environment. I was always exposed to music through my parents and have been passionate about music since I can remember. My father was the guitar player and musician of the family, so naturally I picked it up at a good age, but was in love with the instrument way before I could play. Around middle school, I started to learn saxophone, and played all the way through high school. But during this time I was learning guitar on my own. I had a good formal education in music through the school's band program, and I transferred that knowledge over to my guitar playing. After high school I moved on to UNT.
I am currently studying to get my Jazz Studies degree from The University of North Texas. Before I was a jazz studies major with a concentration in guitar, I was actually a CLASSICAL major. So I'm quite well rounded as a musician. I am also a professional gigging musician around the DFW area. I play many genres; blues, jazz, R&B, rock n' roll, and gospel. I'm also the guitarist for the L.O.V. Ministries band, which is comprised of a couple local hot shots.
I've been teaching students on and off throughout high school and college, and now that I'm near the end of my college degree, I have a lot of time to teach! I am very interested in spreading my knowledge to those who seek it out. I feel that music is a fine art that is very much beneficial for people of all ages to learn, and I'd very much so like to help any one reach their musical goals. I'm very patient and kind, and I'm not one to judge anyone's proficiency on their instrument. We're all on our own path in this musical journey, so let me help you get to where you need!
A brief overview of my knowledge: I am proficient in music theory, I can read and write music, I can play fluently many genres, I have gigging experience, and my UNT Jazz Studies degree in progress.
I'd love for you to contact me if you have any questions, or if you'd like to hear me play before we move to the next step. Hi there, my name is Sean! Let me tell you a little bit about myself. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am currently a Jazz Studies major at The University of North Texas. Which is one of the top ranked jazz schools in the world. I have experience teaching students from ages 15-50 starting from when I was 15 to present day. I'm a very skilled musician, self-taught, and formally trained. I have been a professional musician since high school, and currently, so I have a lot of experience performing. I'm also very kind and I like to teach concepts in a graspable way to students, because I find that even with my education, a lot of the content isn't that easy for students to grab onto with all the academic words.
