Oklahoma Baptist University (Anthropology History)
I am a certified teacher in the great state of Texas, and I can honestly say that my passion in life is helping students excel. After graduating high school I attended Oklahoma Baptist University where I majored in Anthropology and minored in History. Growing up, Social Studies has always been my passion and during my school years I always tutored and led study sessions for people in my class. Also, while attending OBU I worked as a reference assistant which meant that I helped other college students with research and test studies.
After graduating, I returned home to Texas and became certified to teach since that is my real passion. I currently hold three certifications in Social Studies 7-12, Generalist 4-8, and ESL EC-12. These past couple of years as a teacher has really shown me that I love what I do and am willing to do whatever it takes to ensure that a student excels. Not only do I want to teach the student, I also want to help raise their confidence and show them that they are capable of achieving anything. By tutoring, I plan to continue this mission and also look for to the opportunity of working one on one with students.
I have experience in helping students study in order to pass the STAAR test. This has been in both math and reading. As a 8th grade history teacher I was in charge of teaching my students the information they needed to know for their STAAR test and I am proud to say that over half of them received a Level Three score.
Prior to becoming a classroom teacher I worked as a sub which meant I spend a lot of time with students of all ages which included elementary. While teaching, not only did I teach middle school grades (6,7,8) I also taught grades (4,5) as well as helped tutor younger kids while in college.
History has always been my passion growing up which is why I decide to pursue a degree in it. Both my major and minor have a strong focus in Social Studies which cover all different subjects such as government, economics, geography, history, social sciences, and culture. I have taught Social Studies for two years in a school setting which has only solidified my knowledge.
I have a real passion for helping students succeed which is why you can count on me to help you with your studies. I am a fun, energetic, passionate teacher who will do whatever it takes to make sure you achieve your goal. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
At the school I worked for I was put in charge of a STAAR class which gave students additional support in the tested subjects. Normally these classes involved students who failed their previous year and needed extra help. During these classes I helped tutor them in mainly math and reading. Teaching 8th Social Studies means I have to prepare my students for the STAAR. Over half of my class received a level three score.
