Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Career Development

After completing my Masters in English, I managed a Resume Writing Service in north Dallas for five years. I wrote resumes for many highly skilled executives and technical people. Later while teaching at Mansfield Business school in Arlington, TX, I taught Career Development for several years.

Drawing

I have enjoyed drawing since I was a child. While in college I took art classes in charcoal drawing and gesture drawing. Several years ago, I began writing children's books and began conceiving of original art to go with my books. I have studied art lesson on the internet and studied various famous books for many years. I currently work at Texas Woman's University in the art dept as a model and am exposed to the lecture as the professor instructs the class.

Drums

I began playing drums in the 7th grade. When I was in the 9th grade, I became the first chair drummer in my high school. When I went to Louisiana Tech, I auditioned and ranked 1st as a Freshmen in the drum line. I played drum set in various bands. Then I went to UNT which has a nationally recognized music dept and I studied with Ron Fink who is a nationally recognized percussionist. I continue to play with various bands and I have a drumset currently and practice daily.

ESL/ESOL

I have taught Developmental English at North Lake College in Irving, TX, teaching international students from Vietnam to acquire the skills necessary to be successful in using the English language. I also taught international students from Iran and Iraq at Louisiana Tech University. My studies include Linguistics and many writing classes; however, I use a practical down to earth style of teaching.

Guitar

I began studying guitar when I was a Freshmen in college, taking a guitar class and music theory as well. I wrote songs for many years while teaching English at the college level and in 2008, I began putting out albums and have three albums out now where I played guitar parts and sang.

Piano

I first took what is referred to as Class Piano at Louisiana Tech University. Class Piano is advanced piano classes everyday for music majors or minors who are not piano majors. After that I took private piano as I continued with music theory class including ear training. Later in life I took Class Piano at UNT which has a very highly rated music program, so it was intensive, requiring playing in most keys and learning many chord progressions including site reading daily. When I started releasing my albums of songs I wrote, I played piano on those albums.

Public Speaking

I have been an instructor at the college level for more than (5) five years, making presentations to groups of 90 adult students.
I created various TV shows which I hosted and interview guests on camera.
I am on local TV in north Texas four nights a week. As a musician I learned to use PAs and make announcements in front of difficult crowds. While taking voice singing lessons at UNT, we learned about breathe control as it applied to speaking and relaxation.

Speech

While working on my degrees in English, I studied Linguistics and Phonetics, including speech sounds in various languages. When I studied singing, I was required to sing in Italian and German and had to learn other speech sounds. As an English teacher, I was responsible for using correct grammar and speech. I gained several years speech experience as a teacher in the Instructional TV department at Tarrant Community College. I have speech experience with hosting TV shows I produce for Denton Community Television. I make TV commercials as well with my speech skills.

Web Design

I have studied web design in various ways including finishing the Web Master program from Tech Skills in Fort Worth, TX in 2007. I completed Web Basics, Web Master and eCommerce cert. I have maintained various websites over the years for my various businesses.
