About Kendal

Hello,

My name is Kendal and I am a PhD student in Educational Psychology. I also have a law degree and a Master's in Theological Studies. Throughout my time in graduate school and while working as a lawyer I have tutored both high school and college students in test prep and various subjects. I realized that I looked forward to my tutoring work more than I did my day job and decided to pursue education full-time. I have since taught social studies, logic, and writing, and currently serve as a teaching fellow at my university.

I believe in capitalizing on the strengths of each student to foster engagement in the learning process. This helps students develop critical and creative thinking skills and mental habits that extend beyond a single test or assignment, enabling successful learning in any future subject.

Please contact me if you think I can assist you or your child.

Regards,
Kendal

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

I previously worked for a tutoring agency specializing in test preparation, including the ACT English and Reading sections. I have a lot of practice materials and test-taking tips. My method is to help the student identify his/her strengths and weaknesses and then work together to develop both an overarching test approach and specific strategies for tackling each kind of question.

ACT Reading

I previously worked for a tutoring agency specializing in test preparation, including the ACT. I am most experienced with the verbal sections and have a lot of practice materials and test-taking tips for each. My method is to help the student identify his/her strengths and weaknesses and then work together to develop both an overarching test approach and specific strategies for tackling each kind of question.

American History

I designed the curriculum for and taught 6th grade U.S. history at a Dallas-area private school from 2014-2015. I also have 5 years of experience tutoring high school and college students in this subject. My degrees in law, religion, and philosophy further contribute to my knowledge in this area.

Bar Exam

I received my JD from the George Mason University School of Law in 2011. I then took and passed the Virginia bar exam in July of 2011. I am familiar with the Barbri method and am qualified to assist students studying for this exam.

I have guest-lectured twice in an undergraduate Child Development class.
