Originally from China, I am currently a graduate student at the University of North Texas studying Political Science. I majored in English as an undergraduate in China. I tutored Chinese students in English throughout my time in college. Therefore, I deeply understand how hard a language learner struggles when they come to face a new language. When I started learning English, I faced many difficulties, and I resolved to achieve my goal of being an advanced English speaker. Now I have made it, and I have excelled in my English learning!
All languages are alike in that the memorization of vocabulary, grammar, slang, the understanding of another culture, and the sheer determination to keep pressing on are all demanded of the student. But, you are not alone. I have been where you are. I am here to help you out and guide you through the challenges. I believe, with the skills that I have used to help myself, as well as others, I will be able to become a great tutor for American Chinese learners. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
In my curriculum, I would like to put Chinese speaking as the first step for beginners as it is too hard for them to write and read. Pinyin will be used most of the time. But for students of higher levels, Chinese written characters must be included and I will put more reading and writing into the curriculum. Considering individual discrepancies, I will be conscious in adjusting my teaching strategies. Since language demands the improvement of reading, writing, speaking and listening, I will dedicate my time and energy to combining the training of all these parts.
I graduated from Lanzhou University of Technology from China with a Bachelor's degree in English major. Throughout my time in college, I tutored a number of kids in English to help them pass the test to go to college at different places in Lanzhou City where my university is located. My experience taught me how to explain a second language to learners. In my junior year, I came to East Texas Baptist University as an exchange student, I helped my American friends with their Chinese. I had my internship in Lanzhou University of Technology as a teaching assistant. Meanwhile, I observed Teacher Li's classes for 40 hours and I passed my internship test by offering an English class to the non-English majors.
