I'm a multi-disciplinary artist with a focus on painting and graphic design. When it comes to tutoring and teaching my favorite part is to help students identify their weaknesses, and create targeted ways to improve them. As a teacher I'm patient and empathetic. I understand the struggle of learning and remember the challenges I overcame as I grew in my skills, and that is something that greatly informs my approach.

I'm a multi-disciplinary artist with a focus on painting and graphic design. When it comes to tutoring and teaching my favorite part is to help students identify their weaknesses, and create targeted ways to improve them. As a teacher I'm patient and empathetic. I understand the struggle of learning and remember the challenges I overcame as I grew in my skills, and that is something that greatly informs my approach.

As a painter and fine artist I focus on anatomy, life drawing, and the fundamentals to really build up your skills. I have experience with acrylic, oil paint and water color, but tend to focus on acrylic and oil. All painting should be underpinned by drawing and if you are really serious I think it would be best to start there.

When it comes to graphic design I have proficiency in Adobe Photoshop as well as Adobe Illustrator, which is not mentioned here as . I can also assist you with GIMP if you would like to use a free open source alternative as well.

I have a degree in Fine art and graphic design so I have a concentrated study of art history reaching up to contemporary art, and as an artist myself I am always fascinated by the visual creators of the past.

I have a BFA in studio art and graphic design from the University at Buffalo. As a graphic designer I have been using Adobe Photoshop for the past 10 years to manipulate and edit photos. The program has a lot of nuanced abilities, and if we are to work together on it I will slowly build up your skills and confidence, getting you to the point of self sufficiency and creativity.

I have been drawing, painting and illustrating for the past 10 years. I see drawing and illustration as the foundation of painting, so to me they go hand in hand. We will focus on value and line and understanding how to represent what we see with these tools. I prefer to work from life with our drawing practice and really understand how to translate three dimensional form to a two dimensional object. I would recommend we work in a charcoal pencil to start out although we can work with whatever drawing medium you prefer, I do have my recommendations of where to start depending on your skill level.

I am a professional oil and acrylic painter. I focus on the fundamentals and representational drawing as well as drawing from life with my teaching. My work tends to lean towards the surreal, although my foundation aligns with the atelier style. If we work together we can start by understanding the medium of choice, oil or acrylic or even water color, best practices with organization, planning a painting, painting exercises/ practice and then the best practices for the actual artwork we will work on together. Most of our exercises will be drawing and painting from life to understand form, lighting, and how to trust our eye.

Helping me meet my art goals!

Marissa has been fantastic! I decided to take lessons to organize a path to reach my art goals and she has been wonderful in helping me reach them. She demonstrates what we're going over in a clear to understand way that helps build into future material. It's great knowing she'll answer any questions I have, I get feedback from homework, and I feel very confident when she relates how the concepts we go over fit into future lessons. It's refreshing knowing what I get to work towards and I feel like I have a clearly defined path forward!
