I worked for many years at Texas Instruments developing processes for making computer chips. When I left there I took up math and physics tutoring. I love working one on one with students, helping them achieve their goals. I have had many rewarding experiences with students who didn't believe in their abilities at first but went on to become straight A math students.
I've been tutoring for over 10 years including 8 years in the Dallas County Community College system where I tutored all levels of math from developmental up to calculus, differential equations and linear algebra. While working at Brookhaven College I received extensive training in tutoring methods and I subsequently taught math tutoring to other tutors. We emphasized a form of the Socratic method where we don't lecture students but rather draw out the knowledge and abilities that they don't know they have.
I am very friendly and helpful and can relate to students at any level of math understanding. I have enjoyed working with students ranging from teenagers to senior citizens. I work hard to understand my clients needs - how they learn, what their problems are and what works for them. I will be your advocate and work with you to achieve your goals. I have helped many student go from F to A and to succeed in math for the first time in their lives.
I have experience tutoring all levels of math including Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Precalculus, Calculus, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, Business Math and Logic. I have also specialized in helping student who are working to be math teachers with difficult subjects such as complex variable and abstract algebra.

I have had 10 previous lessons with John and all of them have been great. John is very knowledgeable on all the topics I give to him, and his previous experience tutoring and teaching really shows. He is always in a good mood and excited to teach, which makes the hour go by quick. Working with John has increased my confidence in math, reinforced what I have learned in previous math classes, and his lessons have helped me on test questions I would have otherwise missed. John's lessons have been extremely beneficial in helping me understand the little things I typically miss on tests, and his methods of teaching help me understand materials the first time and I rarely have to ask additional questions. Doing online classes this school year has hurt my ability to learn and for a very fair price John has taught me more than my teachers did.
