Welcome Families!

I hold an MA from Columbia University in English and am currently working on my PhD in Rhetoric at TWU. I would characterize myself as a writing coaching who prepares students for college level writing as well as the College Board's AP Language and AP Literature exams. I believe that my outstanding rating and reviews speak for themselves. I have 13 years of experience in the field of education; 10 in the classroom and 3 teaching privately. I am flexible, knowledgeable, and an expert in my area. I have also served as an AP Curriculum Writer and AP reader for the College Board.

These are challenging times for teachers, students, and their families. In a group setting, distance learning is difficult for many students and working with a coach one on one can help them to gain content knowledge as well as practice with writing skills. I help students to apply what they learn in "online modules" and "Zoom lectures" to maximize their writing potential.

In the era of COVID-19, college essays mean more than ever. I have 13 years of experience as a writing coach and five as a senior class advisor. I take students through the college selection process as well as essay preparation and submission.

My classroom experience includes :Pre-K (1 year), Grades 4-6 and Adult ESOL Chinese/English (2 years), Grade 9 English Language Arts (5 years), Grade 10 English Language Arts (5 years), Grade 11 American Literature (5 years), Grade 12 British Literature (5 years), AP English Language and Composition (6 years), and AP Literature and Composition (6 years). Certification: I hold an 8-12 English Language Arts Certificate in Texas, California, and New York.

My areas of specialty are research skills and writing, poetry and prose analysis, analytical writing, rhetorical analysis, expository writing, remedial grammar instruction, remedial reading instruction, SAT/ACT/PSAT test prep, resume and cover letter construction, speech and debate coaching and college application assistance.

Superb Tutor - Highly Recommended!

My son is a homeschooled high school student. Jillian served as his AP Language and Composition teacher. Jillian is a wonderful, patient, and thorough teacher. My son really enjoyed their class. Jillian was able to customize the class to cover readings that my son was interested in. She created an AP syllabus based on his interests and got it certified by the College Board. Jillian was able to get my son excited about a subject that he previously wasn't very excited about. We are so happy with her work that she will be working with our son again this year, teaching him AP English Literature. Jillian is an excellent teacher. She helped my son develop his writing and interest in English. I am very happy to be able to recommend her - she is fantastic!

Remarkable and kind teacher

Struggling in English classes throughout my life, Jillian was the first teacher to make me feel confident in my writing and reading comprehension skills. AP Language and Composition began as one of the hardest English classes I've taken; however, once I started classes with Jillian, the resources and specific test taking tactics she provided were catered towards my learning style and made me feel a lot more confident in the class. From critiquing in-class assignments and practicing AP essays/MCQs to working through SAT reading passages, our lessons were always productive and fun, and I can definitely see my improvement reflected in my writing style and grades!

Amazing expertise and critical support

Before her lessons with Jillian, my daughter was very concerned about her preparation and uncertain for how to approach her upcoming AP English Composition test, Jillian provided a nurturing, supportive environment and incredibly helpful and insightful suggestions and training. I am certain that my daughter is better prepared; I know that she was much more calm about the test. I give Jillian my strongest recommendation; I am so grateful that we had the time with her!

Jillian is an amazing and passionate teacher. I was struggling with AP language until she taught me how to write essays. After a few lessons with her, I was able to get a 5 on my AP English Language test.
