Houghton College (Music)
Graduate Institute of Applied Linguistics (Master's)
Hello! I am a Houghton College graduate with a BMUSin voice, a concentration in linguistics and minors in Spanish, French and intercultural studies. My classwork has since been supplemented by professional performing experience and by several summers in Latin America and the Francophone world. I went on to complete an MA in applied linguistics at the Graduate Institute of Applied Linguistics, where, among other things, I was trained in effective language-learning technique. I have experience tutoring in several subjects as well as giving private voice lessons and teaching English as a foreign language. I have also been employed for several years as a one-on-one mentor for college students, and have been commissioned to submit creative writing for online publications. It gives me joy to facilitate academic and communicative growth in language and music through providing students with an individualized, creative and nurturing learning environment. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or to set up a $20 trial tutoring session in any of the subjects I have listed. I am looking forward to working with you!
I have studied five foreign languages using a plethora of language-learning methods, which makes me very empathetic to the student experience and enables me to offer a unique blend of language-learning methods particular to the goals and learning style of each of my students. In addition, my MA in linguistics and my work as an ESL teacher enhance my ability to identify and address barriers to effective language-learning.
Having studied linguistics and having taught ESL in the past, I am able to patiently and thoroughly explain difficult linguistic concepts. I am dedicated to providing a learning experience that is practical and engaging for my students and that tailors to each of their individual goals. Furthermore, standardized testing has identified me as having exceptionally high command of the English language.
I would love to hear from you!! If you have any questions or would like to schedule a trial lesson, don't hesitate to contact me! Hello! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
