About Jordan

As a career educator I've spent nearly the past decade as a certified High School English, Reading, Journalism, and Speech Teacher. My belief is that every student has the potential to reach his/her goals and my role is to facilitate and share the essential building blocks to do so. As a High School Teacher for DISD and Plano ISD, many of my students thrived. Everyone learns differently and figuring out how an individual does so and then applying that knowledge to my lessons is perhaps the most exciting and fulfilling aspect of being an educator.

It will be my goal as your personal tutor to listen to, assess, and understand what your academic needs are to ensure that your progress and expectations are met. One of my teaching mantras is: It's about progress, not perfection. But eventually, your progress will lead to perfection.

I have created and delivered data-driven literacy instruction to behind-grade level learners. In addition, I've achieved individual student growth rate of 80% (passing) toward targeted Lexile (Reading) score gains of 25+ points in 2013-14. As an Academic Literacy teacher I've implemented differentiated instruction for behind grade-level readers in grades 9-12, facilitating an annual achievement rate of 95% for learners with ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia and other learning differences.

Please feel free to contact me anytime regarding scheduling needs or questions you may have about my tutoring services. I am widely available and willing to travel anywhere in the D/FW area or work online. Thank you for considering me as your tutor and I genuinely look forward to hearing from you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Literature

I developed a passion for literature and literary criticism early on. As a college English Major and High School English teacher my knowledge of English and British literature and how to critique and evaluate it is vast. I'd appreciate any opportunity to share this knowledge and passion with my clients.

Public Speaking

As a member of the Faculty at Vines High School in Plano ISD (TX), I was the head coach of the Student Debate Team. During my 2 years serving in the role, I also gained my accreditation in Speech/Debate for grades 8-12 from the Texas State Board of Education. Aside from teaching the course for 2 years, as a debate coach, our team members went on to compete and place second nation-wide.

Reading

As an Academic Literacy Teacher for 3 years, I implemented differentiated instruction for behind grade-level readers in grades 9 & 10. I also engaged in methodical training of best practices, and gained firsthand experience in compassionate education. My students averaged an annual achievement rate of 95%, including those with ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia and other learning differences.
