I have been in education for 20 years. The first 10 of those years I spent as a bilingual elementary teacher teaching students their core subjects in English and Spanish.
For the last 10, I have been serving different elementary school campuses as a Reading Coordinator helping teachers to better serve their own students in Reading instruction. I have worked with many types of struggling readers. Some were students with dyslexia/dysgraphia, ADD/ADHD and others that just find Reading as a difficult task. Teaching reading is also a passion of mine and I love to make it fun and imaginative!
I am currently working at a private school teaching Spanish to middle and high school students. Learning a new language is not only rewarding, but extremely useful in today's global economy. I love helping students succeed in learning the Spanish language and having fun with it at the same time!
My minor is in English and I have a Master Reading Teacher Certification that I received at SMU. Spanish was my major in college. I lived near Mexico City for several years when I was younger. I have also lived and studied abroad for many years in Spanish spaeaking countries. I have taught Spanish to high school and middle schoolers and have also worked with them one to one in tutoring sessions.
I am a certified general education grades 1-8. I am certified to teach all subjects, but I am more qualified to teach Reading and Writing up to 8th grade. I am qualified to teach Math and Science up to 6th grade.
I am eager to work with you and help with any out-of-class assignments, specific projects and overall advancement of your knowledge in Spanish! I can also help with any Reading and Writing assignments and test prep. I have been in education for 20 years. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
