Texas A&M Commerce (Elementary Education)
Dallas Baptist University (Master's)
I have a Masters from Dallas Baptist University and a degree in Elementary Education from Texas A&M Commerce. I have taught ten years in public schools. I have taught many age ranges and subjects. I believe students learn by doing. I love seeing my students light up when they get the concept I have been teaching them. I have taught in traditional classrooms, co-taught, and also in a Montessori classroom of many different learners. These learners have come from a wide variety of diverse backgrounds and have had the opportunity to learn from one another as well. I have tutored students in subjects of reading in fluency and comprehension. I also have worked on math concepts with them and to find where they maybe making the mistake in finding the correct answer. Over one summer I have been able to get students up two grade levels. I love one on one tutoring because it gives the student the attention individually they need to learn in a quiet place.
I have been teaching a mixed age class the past two years and have been able to teach cursive handwriting to three to five year olds to help with possibly any learning differences. I also get to teach areas of social studies and dive into cultures of the world and not just history. In science I not only teach lessons, but zoology botany, weather, and anatomy. I have taught in Prekindergarten, Kindergarten, and 2nd grade classrooms. I was also a co-teacher in 3rd and 5th grade classrooms.
I have taught students in Saxon Phonics and Math. I have also been an inclusion teacher were I have worked with students with autism, dyslexia, ADD, downs syndrome, cerebella palsy’s, and many other learning differences in math and reading.
Sometimes it takes an extra hand or another way of thinking to get the answer, I would love to tutor you and show you some strategies that have helped my students over the years. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
