There is little in life that I love more than learning about the world around me. In fact, the joy that I get from math and science is second only to the joy that I get from sharing that knowledge with others. Unfortunately, subjects like chemistry and calculus are some of the most hated by students of all ages. I believe that this is not due to any innate fault in the material but rather it being presented in a way that is not tailored to the learning style of your individual student. Because of this, I really do think that anyone has the potential to be great in math and science.
My overall goal as a tutor is not only to help improve course grades and test scores, but also to help instill in others the same sense of wonderment that has me so enthralled by the scientific world as we know it. I am nothing if not enthusiastic. As a result, my approach is unique to each student with whom I work. No two students are alike in either their strengths or weaknesses, so I do my best to cater to those of each individual while maintaining a focus on inspiring a desire for continued, thorough comprehension of science. Chemistry can be challenging, but that is precisely what makes it so satisfying to master! I'm here to help you get to a point where chemistry is not only something you can DO, but something that you truly enjoy.
I specialize in chemistry, particularly general and organic chemistry, but am also well-versed in biology, and mathematics through basic calculus. I am in the third year of my undergraduate biochemistry degree at UT Dallas and am also minoring in public health. I served as a tutor all throughout high school and, in all honesty, it benefits me just as much as it does my students. I don't think there is any better way to learn material than to pass that knowledge along to someone else.

Emerson is a highly intelligent tutor that knows her stuff and has an amazing bedside manner that can't be beat. She is patient in breaking down complex problems and making them easier to understand. As I begin my Spring semester in Organic Chemistry 1, I have full confidence that she will keep me ahead of the game. I highly recommend her and am blessed to have her assistance.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I made a 100% in both Pre-AP and AP Chemistry as well as a 5 on the AP Chemistry exam. During this time I formed an afterschool program to tutor other students in both of these subjects. I have been tutoring students in various disciplines of chemistry for about five years now. In college I have continued to tutor chemistry students while making As in courses like General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry.
I made an A in Classical and Molecular Genetics here at UT Dallas. This course included both Mendelian and non-Mendelian genetics, with topics including gene expression, recombination, and bacterial genetics. As with most of my classes. I learned first and foremost by teaching other students, which in this instance involved even making my own physical models for explanations.
I made an A in both semesters of undergraduate Organic Chemistry here at UT Dallas. My preferred method of studying was teaching other students in the course. I used molecular modeling kits to better explain stereochemistry and utilized example problems for applications of spectroscopy. I had a primary focus on a deeper understanding of detailed reaction mechanisms as opposed to rote memorization of reactants and products.
