I have taught math for 8 years. I wrote the curriculum for 6th grade, pre-algebra and Algebra 1. I also designed an enrichment math program for grades 1 - 5 to help fill in holes in the existing curriculum. I have a good amount of concrete materials - I have helped so many kids master concepts using hands on materials and real life situations. I am also really good at helping kids to ease their anxiety over math and finding ways to create good study habits.
My students, even those who struggled or disliked math, always enjoyed my class. I often heard that instead of hating math, when the kids came to middle school they started to love math. My students told me that I really prepared them for high school math.

I also love to give kids mental math tools. I have a good amount of experience working with the TI-84.

Caron met with my son to review pre-Algebra and Algebra concepts (6th, 7th, and 8th grade material) in preparation for an upcoming test. She was very approachable, gave him helpful strategies and tips, and we hope to keep working with her in the future. She possesses a calming demeanor, which was great for working with my son.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
