I am a former high school mathematics teacher! I have dedicated the last 20 years to the teaching and learning of mathematics at the secondary and post-secondary levels. I begin my tutoring journey in the dorms at college. I formalized my tutoring experience immediately after graduate school. During my first year of teaching, I was Miss MATH in the evenings helping many families in Central Florida Communities. I have taught at the middle school, high school and college level. I have just earned my doctorate in mathematics education and relocated to the Dallas-area.
As an educator, I enjoy instilling confidence and motivating all of my students. Students who begin to feel like they are able to understand and achieve in mathematics begin to focus more on the content and internalize the rules and skills necessary for success. Having taught subjects from Algebra 1 to Precalculus, I understand that students must feel capable in their subjects and be empowered to tackle all the mathematical tasks presented to them. I hope to have the opportunity to serve you as tutor and help your student succeed academically but more importantly begin to feel confident enough for their next level in mathematics. Rhonda has started teaching my daughter Algebra 1 home study remediation program. My daughter failed her entire freshman year and was petrified of Algebra. In just a few hours she was able to unlock my daughters potential to process and complete the assigned problems. We have less than 5 weeks to complete a years program. Rhonda has gone above and beyond to schedule sessions to meet my daughters needs. She actually looks forward to her Rhonda sessions :)
Having an immediate need for a tutor, I reached out to Rhonda via WyzAnt messaging. She responded within minutes to my request. Initially, she indicated she was available for the first session in two days time. However, when I indicated my need was immediate (my child had a test and needed to have a session the very next day), Rhonda reworked her own schedule so she could help my daughter.
Rhonda met with my 10th grade daughter for an hour. Together they worked through the review worksheet, question by question. After the session, Rhonda even emailed the details of the final calculation so my daughter would have them for her reference. In addition to that extra step, she offered to speak with my daughter by phone should she have any questions prior to taking the test. Talk about going the extra mile!
My daughter described Rhonda as "really nice and easy to talk to". She also said Rhonda explained the subject matter in such a way that it was easy to understand.
The results? They speak for themselves. After just one session with Rhonda, my daughter received an A on her test! Needless to say, we will be using Rhonda on a regular basis in the future.
Ms. Rhonda is very knowledgeable and caring. She makes math easy to understand by presenting it in different ways. She makes sure you have a good understanding of the subject before moving to the next.
Rhonda is very patient and does everything in her power to help you learn. She breaks problems down to help you understand.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
