Having grown up in Mexico City, traveled in Spain, throughout Mexico, been an interpreter for teams in Costa Rica, Honduras & the Dominican Republic, I am considered a "native speaker". I also have 6 years experience as a certified public school teacher in Spanish, and most recently 2 years experience specifically as a tutor. I sustain 5-star ratings from student reviews elsewhere, however I am new to Wyzant. I believe in making learning fun while being intensely focused on learning goals. My aim is not only success but elevating confidence and fluency. I aim to have each student make the gains they want in the least amount of time necessary, given individual differences and objectives.
I am happy to provide a brief phone consultation for free to determine your particular interests and needs.
I understand what it is like to learn a new language and certain linguistic nuances that help conversational Spanish be fluent and sound more like native speakers....not just mechanical language acquisition. I also have earned graduate degrees in another field, but know what it is like to be in academic environments with rigorous expectations for excellence.
I prefer to work in a central location in Dallas - such as Half Price Books, on NWHwy at Central by Northpark Mall (at a table near the cafe or among the book racks where quiet attention can happen). In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Having grown up in Mexico City from age 6 to 16, I am considered a "native speaker". I have a Bachelors Degree with Spanish and Art Education as my majors. I am a certified Spanish school teacher and have 6 years' teaching experience and almost two years of tutoring experience. I have earned a Masters & PhD in another field but have used my bilingual skills in that field on and off throughout my career. I am passionate about helping students grasp the language and reach their personal goals.
