About Nick

Hello, I have recently moved to the DFW area to begin my career as a quantitative analyst for a large company--and to be honest, I miss teaching/tutoring. I have extensive experience as a teacher and a tutor. As an undergraduate student, I was a supplemental instructor for economics and tutored in math. I continued to tutor on the side in graduate school while I studied economics and was also a teacher's assistant for economics courses.

I have a strong background in mathematics and economics (I majored in both) and am able to teach the following courses:
College Algebra, Calculus 1-3, Linear Algebra, Discrete Mathematics, Mathematical Proofs, Real Analysis, Probability, Statistics, Econometrics, Data Analysis, Introductory and Intermediate macroeconomics/microeconomics.

Since I am now working full time, I would only be able to meet in the evenings and weekends. I believe you will find me to be friendly, enthusiastic, patient, and professional. I look forward to helping you succeed in your coursework (and perhaps find out that you actually LIKE math too!).

I am also an active chess tournament player (1550 rating) and enjoy teaching anyone new/intermediate to the game. If your rating is 1300 or below, I am confident I can help you improve.

Thank you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Calculus

--Majored in mathematics with a 3.7 GPA
--Received an A in Calculus I, II, and III
--4 years of teaching/tutoring experience

Chess

I am an active tournament player and rated around 1550.

Discrete Math

I double majored in economics and mathematics at the University of Arkansas. I received an A in my Discrete Mathematics course and a GPA average higher than 3.5 in my mathematics courses.

Econometrics

I have taken 6 econometrics courses: two at the University of Arkansas (both A's), two at the London School of Economics (both B's) and two PhD level econometrics courses at Michigan State University of Arkansas (earning a 3.5 out of 4 on both courses). I have tutored people in econometrics and have written a thesis that has used panel-data regression techniques.

Finite Math

I majored in mathematics at the University of Arkansas, earning above a 3.5 average in my math classes. I have not taken finite math per se, but I took discrete mathematics and many statistics class--all of which I earned an A. I am extremely familiar with finite math, as it borrows heavily from coursework that I have taken (permutations/combinations, etc)

Linear Algebra

I majored in mathematics in college, passed my linear algebra course, have tutored people in linear algebra, and have learned more complex linear algebra techniques in my PhD-level economics class called "math camp". Also, I have taken PhD level econometrics classes that extensively use matrix algebra, eigenvalues, eigenvectors, and vector spaces.

Logic

I majored in mathematics in college. I took a discrete math course that used truth tables and we learned basic mathematical proof concepts. I made an A in the course. Furthermore, I took an Introduction to Mathematical Proof class where we learned all proof methods: direct proof, indirect proofs (by induction, contrapositive, contradiction). I also made an A in this class. My graduate coursework in economics used many proofs borrowed from Real Analysis as well.

Macroeconomics

I majored in economics and mathematics and was a teacher's assistant in microeconomics and macroeconomics for almost four years. I also have completed a year of economics courses in graduate school. I have extensive experience in economics and teaching economics.

Microeconomics

I majored in economics and mathematics and was a teacher's assistant in microeconomics and macroeconomics for almost four years. I also have completed a year of economics courses in graduate school. I have extensive experience in economics and teaching economics.

Knowledgeable and patient instructor

Our son met Nick and he was a very pleasant person who has immense knowledge in Mathematics and Economics. It's rare to find someone who excels in both liberal arts and math field as this is not to be taken lightly. He explained with clarity some concepts in microeconomics that he had not understood and then switched gears to calculus and he did the same to explain a concept in derivatives. I hig
