I specialize in supporting professionals in communication, with the most experience in supporting English Language Learners. I can instruct in both English and Spanish.
I hold a Master of Arts degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from American University, and two Bachelor’s degrees (Spanish, International Studies) from the University of Missouri - Columbia. In addition, I am an Americorps alumnus, during which time I taught in one of America's toughest schools. Through my Master's degrees, teaching fellowship, and classroom experience, and government work on No Child Left Behind, I acquired a strong ability to design entire courses. With me, you may even request a personally tailored course to fit your exact needs. I've written website content and other copy for a Fortune 100 audience and have done work for many companies listed on the Forbes list of Best Places to Work.
I've taught in various settings and to many age groups:
- English Language (in Math, Science, Social Studies, Reading, and Writing) to non-native English speakers Pre-Kindergarten through fifth graders
- Algebra I, Geometry, Calculus
- SAT Prep
- beginning to advanced English-prep college courses for international students at independent language schools and a community college
- corporate and government communication skills (presentations, meetings, small-talk, preparing reports)
- supporting graduate school students with reports and papers (International relations, communications, PR / marketing)
I also have a year of experience in Education Policy in Washington, DC, where I sat on state and national committees to provide input on testing materials and to draft policy for English Language Learners. Due to this, I am very attuned to the needs of test-takers. I personally performed exemplary on high school AP exams and tested out of all college English and Math courses.
My experience includes teaching the most difficult and under-resourced teaching environments all the way to C-level executives.
I am qualified to teach in both English and Spanish, since I am also fluent in Spanish through my studies both in the United States and in the Dominican Republic.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My Anthropology college course was in the Honors college. I earned a B in the course. I have successfully tutored two college students in Anthropology.
I taught Elementary School students in all grade for 2 years as an ESOL instructor. To do this job, I had to be able to teach students concepts and vocabulary for all subjects, including math, science, social studies, and reading. I also have a Master's degree in Teaching, from which program I graduated with a 3.6 GPA.
In addition to using Powerpoint daily for teaching at Richland College, I also used the software when I worked for the District of Columbia government, where I trained education administrators throughout the state.
I entered the University of Missouri as a freshman with 10 credit hours of Spanish from completing AP Spanish grammar and composition and AP Spanish literature in high school. I studied abroad my entire junior year in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. I graduated with a 3.6 GPA, including an honors certificate. I have used Spanish in volunteering, work, and social settings for seven years.
I am qualified to tutor in Study Skills because I hold a Master's degree in Teaching. I also have over 5 years of teaching experience, with many years of tutoring experience beforehand. As a student, I consistently maintained an 'A' average, always making honor roll and excelling in honors courses. I am well qualified to demonstrate to others how to study effectively.
