I am currently certified by the Texas State Board of Education to teach Special Education EC-12, ESL Supplamental, Generalist 4-8 and Combined Social Studies 8-12. I have experience teaching in all of these areas in both General Education and Special Education over the last 7 years within the Richardson Independent School District. I specialize in helping students break through barriers to their own educational success. I have helped students elevate their reading scores by two (2) whole grade levels within one school year. I have assisted students in adapting their own strengths to overcome difficulties in Elementary Science, Language Arts, Reading and Social studies. I have had similar success in Junior and Senior High Language Arts, Reading and Social Studies.I also have experience with generating and adapting lesson plans to assist those with individual differences to achieve their assigned goals. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have Certifications In SpEd EC-12 and Generalist-4-8. I also have 5 years experience teaching on multiple campuses in RISD in Grades 2 thru 6.
I have used Phonics-based methods in my teaching for 7 years within the RISD. In both Special and General Education this process helps reduce confusion and engender comprehension in students who are having difficulty with sound recognition. I have found it particularly helpful where multiple combinations of letters produce the same vowel sound and help with differentiation is needed.
