About Christopher

Hello Parents and Students!

I am an experienced teacher and tutor with almost ten years of work under my belt. My specialties are American and European history, SAT/ACT reading comprehension and essay writing.

About Me:

I received my undergraduate degrees (B.A. classics, B.A. philosophy) from the Honors College at the University of Mississippi, summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, in 2007. While at Ole Miss I tutored student athletes in English, writing, and American/European history. I also taught classes in classical history topics at the University Museum for visitors.

I received my law degree from the University of Houston Law Center in 2011, where I won a state-wide essay contest sponsored by the State Bar of Texas for an essay on the legacy of Lincoln's Gettysburg Address.

I am currently finishing my Ph.D in history at the University of Houston, where I have had teaching assistantships in Western Civilization to 1500 and History of Globalization. In addition to teaching assistantships at the university, I have also tutored numerous students in SAT preparation for Kaplan Test Prep.

About my teaching method/philosophy:

I am an enthusiastic and rigorous teacher/tutor who wants to see each person live up to their full intellectual and personal potential. I believe that my enthusiasm is contagious and attribute my personal teaching and tutoring success to the genuine love that I have for reading/writing and especially for the study of history.

I understand that each person learns differently, and personalize my tutoring to the individual needs of each student.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anthropology

I hold a bachelor's degree in anthropology from the University of Mississippi. I graduated with this degree summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa.

Archaeology

Archaeology is one of four sub fields within anthropology, along with cultural anthropology, linguistic anthropology, and biological anthropology. As part of my anthropology degree, I took several courses in archaeology. I also have field experience in field techniques at the Etruscan site of Poggio Civitate near Murlo, in the Tuscany region of Italy.

Classics

Classics was one of my three undergraduate majors, along with philosophy and anthropology. I took classes in Latin, Greek, as well as classical history.

Study Skills

As an undergraduate I instructed student athletes in a variety of subjects as well as general study skills. In addition, teaching study skills was a vital part of my teaching assistantships in graduate school.

Writing

I have more than ten years experience tutoring students from the middle school through the collegiate level. I have a distinct method of teaching writing that most tutors and teachers neglect to develop. I understand completely the unique challenge posed by writing, especially essay writing. I have an exceptional training in academic writing (JD, MA, Ph.D) and extremely competitive rates. If you want an A, I am here for you.
