Bienvenue and Salvete!
Welcome to students of French, Latin and English. I have taught for forty years with a major in French and minors in Latin and English. I am certified in all three in the state of Texas. My teaching experience extends from college/university level to middle school. When I decided to retire a few weeks ago, I realized that working with small groups of students would be ideal provided the students with whom I work are highly motivated and truly interested in learning. Since my rates are $45 for one and $65 for two, I encourage the person being tutored to choose a partner.
I prefer to use a variety of teaching methods: the natural approach, cooperative learning, reading, writing, listening and speaking, technology, music and art. TPR (total physical response) will appeal to the kinesthetic learner.
Because I do not drive long distances, I prefer to meet at a library, at a school or in an office rather than at my home or the home of my students. We will need access to a computer, screen, cassette or CD player and a projector if more than two people are being tutored together. Learning can be very enjoyable, but please come prepared to work. You must be an active participant, willing to master a few concepts at a time. Just as athletes are expected to repeat some of the same exercises until they excel at them, language learners will also practice some of the same skills until they master them. Bienvenue and Salvete!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
