About Beverly

With over 40 years in the classroom, I have worked with students at many levels. I still attend professional meetings to make sure that I have sharp skills to handle today's curriculum demands. While the state of Texas demands that all students study physics, the decision makers have not provided a path for the teachers to understand the issues and struggles that some students face in their study of physics. I have continually attended workshops and instructional programs to make me better at my mission: all students can learn physics and chemistry. I have met many of the textbooks authors and consider them friends. I find these contacts invaluable in my curriculum strategies for students success. Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I am certified in 3 states to teach math. I have taught Algebra I and Algebra II in a full time program for gifted students. I have 32 hours of credit in undergraduate math courses and 12 hours of credit in graduate math courses.

Algebra 2

I have compeleted an undergraduate program with 32 hours of math and I have had extensive math classes as part of my graduate program in chemistry and physics. I have taught high School Algebra II and tutored many students with college algebra. I continue to apply the math concepts to allaa of the other subjects I teach as often it is the math manipulations that present the biggest problem to the students in other disciplines.

Chemistry

I have A BS in chemistry and my Master's in Sci Ed included chemistry. I taught chemistry for 25 years and I have tutored many students in this field.

Physics

I have been a physics teacher for a long time. I am active in the American Association of Physics Teachers and the TX section of AAPT. I am a Physics Teacher Resource Agent and I have attended workshops for the last 20 years at AAPT meetings to improve my understanding of physics concepts. I have worked with the Modeling physics curriculum, Mechanical Universe curriculum, Comprehensive Conceptual Curriculum in Physics and the PRISMS Physics curriculum.

Prealgebra

I have worked in the middle school science program as part of the Full-time Gifted Program. This included many units of study that were collaborations the math program. I have also worked as a tutor many middle school students that had difficulty with math and pre-algebra. I have completed several graduate classes in teaching strategies for math students.

Great tutor and very accomodating with her time.

Beverly was very knowledgeable in her subject. She provided a lot of positive reinforcement and encouragement as she gave her lesson. She was easy to reach and understood that help was needed at unscheduled times due to unforeseen circumstances. Such a pleasant lady!
