About Jesse

Hello, my name is Jesse. I graduated from the University of North Texas with a degree in Behavior Analysis. I spent two years as an in-class and an in-home autism teacher. From there I attended an alternative certification program and received my TX teaching certificate in Generalist EC-6. This certificate certifies me to teach all subjects from pre-k through 6th grade. I also received my TX teaching certificate for Special Education pre-k through 12th grade, as well an my ESL certification pre-k through 12th grade. I am currently a 4th grade math, social studies and science teacher, as well as a 5th grade baseball/softball coach.

My tutoring strategies begin with an assessment of your student's strengths and weaknesses in each area of concern. Based on the assessment I will make a "timeline" of the weaknesses for us to begin to tackle each session, as well as reinforcing one of your student's strengths each day. As a tutor, I help students with different types of strategies for their problem areas. These strategies may include recalling techniques, flash cards, picture and/or word association or any other strategy that will help your individual student succeed.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Autism

I hold a B.S. in Applied Behavior Analysis. With this degree, I spent four years studying autism through literature as well as autistic children. I spent one summer volunteering at the Denton State School with adults with multiple disabilities. I then spent one year working as a general education autism therapist. With this job, I created a routine based classroom for autistic children to transition them into regular classes. After that I worked 9 months as a one-on-one in-home autism therapist. I also am state certified EC-12 SPED.

Baseball

I have been coaching baseball and softball for 2 years now to students ages 8-12 years old. I currently work with the Texas Rangers RBI Jr. Program to revive baseball in inner cities.
