I have degrees in Education, French and Art (Bachelor's), and Linguistics and Anthropology (Master's). I'm fluent in French and have lived in 6 countries. Ms. Margaret is an great tutor! At the beginning of the school year I was struggling with French and she helped me improve on my pronunciation, vocabulary, and sentence structure. I now currently have a 90 in my class and pass all of my tests with high 90s. She is very patient, if she sees I'm struggling with a word she does not let me move on until I have mastered the pronunciation. She also makes the lessons easier to understand by breaking it down and using examples. I would honestly recommend her to any French student or anyone in general that is having a hard time conquering the language.
Margaret has a wealth of knowledge about the French language as well as French culture. She spent years living in France and French speaking West Africa and has repeatedly used her experiences to help us develop our linguistic and cultural understandings.
She is flexible in teaching style and lots of patience while still demanding excellence from her students. My wife and I learn in very different ways and Margaret has been able to successfully teach both of us and makes the transition between the two styles effortlessly.
We couldn't have been happier with our experience!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My Master's Degree is in Intercultural Studies, which is basically cultural anthropology. I have lived in 6 countries as a linguist and trainer - basically an anthropologist. I have a deep understanding of the characteristics of culture. I have done ethnographic research. I am passionate about social identity, economic and social systems, kinship, and spirituality of societies.
One of my Bachelor's Degrees is in Art Education. Art history was the first history subject that was interesting to me. I love seeing how visual art tells the story of the history of its time - and seeing how art has changed through time and how it is different in various locations. And I love passing this passion on to others!
Part of majoring in Art Education included extensive study of Art History in college. In addition, when I was an art teacher in public school, I instituted an art history component in my art classes, and have experience teaching art.
When I studied in France my junior year, I took many classes in art history at the Université de Strasbourg. I also traveled Europe extensively, studying the art & architecture wherever I went.
I have been a student of the Bible for decades. i have studied it personally, non-formally in groups, and in formal institutions. My Master's Degree is from Fuller Theological Seminary.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Art Education for grades K-12. I taught middle school and high school art for three years. When I teach drawing, I focus on teaching the elements of art: line, shape, space, texture, form and value. I integrate these five elements of art into the six principles: pattern, rhythm, proportion, balance, unity and emphasis. Integrating elements and principles of art - with good feedback - makes for a sound foundation to develop skill in drawing.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in K-12 education in the subjects of Art & French. I took a lot of classes in just elementary-level education to major in education, let alone the Art & French part. I also home schooled my 2 children.
I majored in humanities & education for my Bachelor's Degree. One major was in French. Those skills of reading, writing, literature, research, etc. apply to English. I also have most of a Master's Degree in linguistics. This correlates directly to English studies. And a complete Master's Degree in training.

These principles apply to any type of painting. Skill in the medium, whether it be tempera, acrylic, oil, watercolor, or other, comes with practice and direct teaching.
I have a deep knowledge of linguistics and languages. I was a linguist in several countries, studying unwritten languages. I have also taught phonetics at the university level. Therefore, I am more than capable of teaching phonics. I understand the relationship between sounds and letters - and why English uses certain letter combinations to represent various sounds. I home schooled my children in their early years, emphasizing phonics. They are now very successful students.
My methodology tends to be clear instruction followed by plenty of practice to instill the sound/symbol relationships.
I studied photography when I was majoring in art for my Bachelor of Arts degree. As a certified art teacher, I can teach the principles of design that make good photographs. Becoming a good photographer takes lots of practice with good feedback: what is good and why, and what can be better and how. I and skilled at doing this.
