I possess a wide variety of experiences, both educational and practical, that make me an effective tutor. I graduated Magna Cum Laude and Order of the Coif from SMU Dedman School of Law in May 2016 and am a licensed attorney practicing in Dallas. Previously, I completed two master's degrees, the most recent from the University of Dallas in political philosophy. And the former was completed in the spring of 2011 at Dallas Theological Seminary in Historical Theology. My undergraduate work was completed at Cedarville University in 2006 with a B.A. in Christian Education. I have tutored over 25 different subjects with incredible results.
I am comfortable working with all age groups from early elementary to college graduates preparing for graduate studies. I realize that many students do not naturally love the educational process and so my goal is to make the tutoring experience not only academically beneficial, but also enjoyable and engaging. I employ challenging inductive and deductive teaching methods, and encourage the students to practice what we learn together through repetition and analysis. In my initial meeting with each student I spend adequate time assessing your particular needs and craft the educational experience to fit both those needs and your personality. It is my long held passion for education and learning that helps make my tutoring experience both effective and enjoyable for my students. I am driven by the challenge of engaging in the educational process and helping students achieve the satisfaction of improved performance and grades.
If you have any questions about either me or my qualifications, don't hesitate to ask! I love talking with potential students and or parents and I hope to hear from you soon! After not being able to find a suitable tutor, I found WyzAnt online. I was hesitant with this method of finding someone, but decided I would give it a try. After reviewing many, many profiles, I selected Dave. Well, Dave was the right tutor for our son - he is awesome! He had a very flexible schedule and was able to work around our son's busy school and high school football schedule. He was always on-time and got right to business. He was friendly, down-to-earth, patient, knowledgeable, and cared about our son and his performance in school and on the upcoming SAT/ACT exams. He was easy to stay in touch with and understanding if a scheduled tutoring needed to be rescheduled. I would recommend Dave for any kind of tutoring he offers. He is a top-notch tutor!
Dave was very professional from the moment he walked in the door. Looking forward to see if my daughter's skills/scores excel.
David has done a great job tutoring my seven year old son. My son has responded well to his style.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I played basketball competitively in middle school and high school, advancing into the regional finals in both varsity years. I have attended an array of summer basketball camps not only honing my own skill, but giving me insight into how to teach and develop the skills of others. I am hard working and understand both the skills of the game and have the ability to teach those skills to others.
I have a significant background in biblical and theological studies. I have an undergrad and Christian Education and a graduate degree from Dallas Theological Seminary making my a proficient scholar and more then capable to guiding others through the biblical text and its meaning. I am also fluent in the original text languages of Greek and Hebrew.
I have trained in weightlifting as a trainer since high school and subsequently have been a member at both the Baylor Tom Landry fitness center and Gold's Gym. I have a sound understanding of how the body works, healthy and effective weightlifting techniques and can motivate my clients to reach their fitness goals.
My undergraduate degree in education included extensive training in educational theory and practice of elementary aged children including learning styles, models of education, and the use of a variety of techniques. Included as part of my degree was a 12 credit hour internship focusing on youth education in which I spent the semester writing and preparing lesson plans, teaching on a wide range of topics, and tutoring students in one on one situations.
This education was coupled by experience mentoring and teaching children in a variety of contexts including religious, charities, and after school programs, which gives me a healthy background in understanding the developing minds of children and their educational needs. Some of these contexts such as elementary after school tutoring and curriculum creation for a second grade course were particularly helpful.
Furthermore, I have spent significant time over the last 4 months tutoring many elementary students in reading, grammar, English, math, and spelling. These sessions been very productive for both improving student grades and comprehension and also help guide my planning for future students. Each child is unique and I create an environment in which everyone can learn effectively.
I am an active fitness participant, currently working out 6 days a week. I had professional training in high school and college and apply those skills to my workouts regularly. I love motivating others to reach their potential and am capable of doing so.
I played football on the elementary, middle school, and high school levels. I have volunteered at several football camps to assist in coaching as well as technique development. I have a sound understanding of the game, strategy, and am capable to teaching those skills to others.
My public speaking background is fairly expansive. My undergraduate education of course included basic courses in public speaking, but also required 21 credits of classes practicing developing and delivering a speech. This experience has fostered an acute acumen for how to prepare to execute a speech that connects with the audience no matter the context. I teach a memorable strategy that will keep you on track and make the speech process far less painful.
Furthermore, my graduate degree in theology required an additional six credit hours in public speaking. These classes were designed to teach a method for analyzing the subject and the audience in order to ensure effective communication. I look forward to working with you and easing your public speaking anxieties!
I have a 120 Credit hour 4 year Master of Theology degree from Dallas Theological Seminary with an emphasis upon Historical and Systematic Theology.
Having sound study skills is one of the most important elements to academic success. I am currently in my second masters degree and my 10th year of higher education so it's safe to say I have learned a wide variety of skills and tactics to study well and learn material. In our tutoring sessions, you not only learn the material you are examining currently, but the fundamental skills necessary to learn and apply future material. The first step to success in academics is learning how to study and organize well. I look forward to working with you, whatever level you are currently on.
