As an educator, my primary responsibility is to foster the growth and development of all my students. I strongly believe that language and literacy development are essential to educational success. For the 2010-2011 school year, I have worked as a science teacher at Heritage Academy where I incorporate these disciplines in my everyday instruction. Over the years, I have come to realize that appropriate language and literacy development are the foundation for young children to thrive academically, emotionally and socially.
During my student teaching and my field experience, I have worked with students at the elementary, middle and high school levels. This included providing individual, small group and whole class instruction to students with learning disabilities and emotional disturbances. I value individuality, and strive to meet the individual needs of each student. To accomplish this, I use a variety of hands-on activities and different teaching strategies to accommodate diverse learning styles. My experience in the field of education has allowed me to understand the important role parents and family play in promoting student academic success. As a result, I view teaching as a partnership between the teacher, the child, the family and the greater community.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
