I have a BS in Biology and BA in Classics(Latin/Greek)from UT Austin. I also have three years of experience at UTSW medical school.
I provide in home tutoring and tailor the sessions to your child's needs. My best experiences have been tutoring 1st and 2nd year Latin. I also provide reading and general homework help to elementary and intermediate school students. I am confident about my ability to tutor SAT, MCAT, Chemistry and Biology.
I was a National Merit Scholar based on my PSAT score, scored Verbal 740 Math 700 on my SAT the one and only time I took it, and scored 780 on my SAT II Writing. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Classics which means that I have excellent language skills and interpretive skills. I am able to synthesize information while looking at details and the big picture. I refined my English grammar skills in Latin and Greek classes. I competed locally and nationally in various Latin competitions including grammar, reading comprehension, and vocabulary. I tutored Latin and headed a reading comprehension study group during high school.
I have extensive experience taking standardized tests and even spent some time grading TAKS as well as the Arkansas standardized test. However, my expectations for what was acceptable grammatically in a written essay were higher than those of the other scorers. I recently took an SAT preparation course and mastered the material.
I have a Bachelor of Science in Biology and attend medical school at UTSW for 3 years. I studied with groups during my first two years of medical school and after mastering a specific topic we would teach it back to each other. I am good at simplifying concepts and explaining them to others who may not have as strong a science background. During my first year of medical school I was on the student test committee, which met with professors to discuss ambiguous test questions.
I look forward to working with your child. Thank you for your consideration! I have a BS in Biology and BA in Classics(Latin/Greek)from UT Austin. I also have three years of experience at UTSW medical
Ms. N tutored my son for 2.25 years (10th, 11th and part of 12th grade) in the following subjects:
-Latin I, II PAP, IV AP (partial semester)
-Biology I, Biology II AP, Chemistry I, Chemistry II AP (partial semester)
-English II, III AP, IV AP (partial semester)
-World History, US History AP
-Geometry I PAP, Algebra II PAP, Calculus AB AP (partial semester)
She also helped my son study for the PSAT, ACT, SAT, SAT subject tests and AP exams (English II, Biology II, US History).
She is an exceptional tutor that has a very deep knowledge of academics, particularly in Latin, Biology and English. She also significantly improved my son's organizational and study skills. She was very accommodating of our schedule and came to our home for all sessions.
When we started this 2.25 year tutoring journey my son was a student that wasn't very serious about school, had no study skills and was very disorganized. Now as a Senior he is taking 8 classes (6 AP) and doing all the work on his own while making over a 4.0 GPA (weighted). He also will be attending a top National University with a 60% tuition scholarship where he will be studying Computer Science.
I would highly recommend Ms. N as a tutor for your student.
Amanda is a great tutor for Latin. My daughter has been more successful in this subject with her help. She is pleasant, professional and communicates well.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am well qualified to prep students for the MCAT. In April of 2004 I scored in the top 3% of MCAT test takers with a 36/45. The score breakdown was Biology:14, Verbal:12, and Physics/Chemistry:10. I have a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology from the University of Texas at Austin, which means I completed 1 year of chemistry, 1 year of organic chemistry, 1 year of physics, and many biology courses. I graduated from UT Austin with a GPA of 3.7
