My name is Marquis. I am very passionate about students learning and acquiring strong Mathematical and Computer Technology skills. It is my belief that everyone that has a problem should have it explained in away the person can understand it, and should have fun and enjoy their learning experience. The use of computer technology to improve teaching and learning especially in math provides an excellent opportunity for me to help many students who struggle with computer and math skills. I love making a difference in the lives of students by helping students to be successful in math and computer skills and for the past 23 years enjoyed teaching/tutoring Pre-Algebra, Algebra I & II, and basic and advanced computer skills.
What’s important to me in the teaching/learning experience is understanding the knowledge level and learning style of each the student. I take pride in establishing a student-friendly learning environment which enables me to personalize the teaching style by incorporating humor and a variety of visual and practical examples to keep learning up-beat and meaningful to the student.

I started tutoring basic math, Pre-Algebra, and Algebra I and II in 1987 as a volunteer at my former elementary school and for neighborhood students and family members. I found this to be very rewarding and sought other opportunities to help struggling students. In 1995 I volunteered as a math and computer skills tutor at the Lancaster/Kiest Public Library in Dallas, Texas where I received an award for outstanding community service. It has been my goal to help every student experience the personal joy and pride of success and accomplishment as we work together to for achieve effective teaching and learning.

From 1988 to 1991, I was employed as an elementary grade substitute teacher for the Dallas Public School District. I was inspired to continue my formal educational training in the areas of greatest interest to me and earned an Associate Degree from Cedar Valley College, Dallas Texas in Accounting along with an Associate Degree in Business Information Systems from El Centro College, in Dallas. My final course work while attending El Centro College included Co-Op training in the College Computer Lab. This class provides practical experience in applying all of my computer skills by assisting college students with various types of computer assignments. Many students needed help with computerized math assignments. This allowed me to help the students with math and computer skills. I was happy to utilize my mathematical and computer skills and be an asset to the college and the students in the computer lab. I was hired as a Computer Lab Technician and have continued to work for over 10 years at El Centro College in the computer lab and tutoring program helping college and high school students with Pre -Algebra, Algebra I & II and Microsoft Applications.

Further educational advancement includes formal courses and training in all of Microsoft Office 2007 - Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access and on–line math courses which keep me knowledgeable and current in my field and prepared to meet the learning needs of a variety of students.
During the summers of 2003-2005, prior to Hurricane Katrina, I taught Introduction to Computers at the New Orleans public library and was featured as The Volunteer of the Week in the local newspaper. I have developed innovative PowerPoint Presentations for nursing faculty at Delgado Community College in New Orleans by incorporating narrations, videos, custom backgrounds with sound, and smart art designs to improve student learning with dosage and calculation.

Currently I am developing a Power Point presentation to facilitate student learning of crucial steps to use to simplify applications in Pre- Algebra and Algebra I & II. I continue to fulfill my passion for teaching/tutoring by volunteering at the Lancaster Recreation Center in Dallas, Texas and plan to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of North Texas.
