About Jose

Hello esteemed parent/student, I have been teaching in a T-STEM engineering academy for 4 years in Carrollton, TX and have truly enjoyed working with high school students. I currently teach high school Pre-AP Biology and Biotechnology Engineering to Juniors. I am certified through the state of Texas to teach 8-12 Life Science and have over 40 hours of undergraduate Biology courses. I am also certified to teach Project Lead the Way courses in Introduction to Engineering Design and Biotechnology Engineering. While most traditional teachers teach using lecture based instruction, I have had 4 years of extensive training in teaching students using a project based approach. I have attended project based trainings in Michigan, Austin,TX and Dallas, TX. My classes function like businesses in that guided/independent students come up with solutions to problems in the community. I currently create projects that align with Texas TEKS. I have extensive Biology worksheets, labs, and PowerPoints which are aimed at student engagement and achievement. I have attended Project Lead the Way trainings in Engineering at Duke University and Rochester Institute of Technology. I have attended Science seminars in Dallas in which teaching practices were introduced to aid in my teaching. I am also certified to teach GT courses. In addition, I use my laptop and technology for almost everything I do in my classroom which research shows increases students subject knowledge by allowing them to research current artifacts. I run two clubs at our academy- FastTrack RC, a national T-STEM league aimed at heightening the number of students interested in Math and Science and a conversion club in which my students have converted a gas riding lawnmower to electricity. My FastTrack students have participated at National competitions in North Carolina, where we were awarded 3rd place, and Florida, where we received $1400 in prize money and walked away with various awards. Not to be boastful, but my students would say that I am "passionate about teaching, enthusiastic about their success, and willing to go above and beyond in developing their learning in Science." Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
