My name is Shannon. I have been a tutor for AISD, UTA and the surrounding private schools. I have and continue to tutor math for grades 5 through high school (as high as Algebra II). I also tutor biology and chemistry. I have a B.S. in Honors Biology and M.S. in Biology.
In my tutoring sessions I use Socrates's method. I use questions to draw the answer out of the student, thereby facilitating long term memory instead of instant answers without thinking. I have found my students improve their overall grade this way not just their homework grade. I also help teach the students how to recognize what type of question is being and how to answer that question.
I look forward to working with all of you and helping your school year be successful! My name is Shannon. I have been a tutor for AISD, UTA and the surrounding private schools. If there is more than one student for the same subject at a time (group tutoring) then the cost is only $35/ hr/ student
Shannon has helped my daughter enormously with Chemistry this past summer and is currently helping her with microbiology. She is dependable and flexible with my daughter’s very busy schedule. I would highly recommend Shannon as a tutor.
We have already seen a difference in Kate's math grades. We know she has her struggles with math. However, she LOVES Ms. Shannon & actually looks forward to doing math with Shannon!! That alone is priceless to us. Thank you to Ms. Shannon for being such a great role model :-)
On 1st impression Shannon was confident and knowledgeable, made daughter comfortable right away, and provided multiple study tips to better prepare for exams. We will continue to work with Shannon for remainder of semester.
Shannon is easy to work with and she explains the information I'm learning in a way I can understand. Great chemistry tutor!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I took genetics and received an A in the course at the University of Texas at Arlington. I have also been the SI leader for the course at UTA and have studied genetics on a more in depth level during grad school at UTA. I have taken several advance classes using genetics including developmental biology, population genetics, biochem I, II, and metabolism and regulation.
I took microbiology 2 years ago at UTA and received an A in the course. I also have tutored Micro for science majors and for nursing students since then with a high success rate (everyone received at least a B in the course). I love micro and love tutoring/ teaching the subject!
