About Walter

My Success System contains a very unique approach, is very affordable with a la carte modules, and has demonstrative results.

My love of teaching comes from a lifelong love of learning. Through years of teaching and tutoring I have developed a method for teaching standardized test preparation that is unique as many of my students will attest.

This method can be extended to other subjects very easily and effectively.

I also specialize in standardized tests: the PSAT, because it is used as the qualifying test for the extremely important National Merit Exam program, the ACT, and the new SAT. The ACT is more curriculum based, more students took it in 2012 than the SAT, most importantly almost all colleges now readily accept the ACT in lieu of the SAT, and finally the students usually score higher in the ACT than the SAT (on a percentile basis).

I look forward to answering your questions and working together to help your student in this very important part of their future life. By raising their score they not only increase the number of universities and colleges they can attend, and they can lower the cost through scholarships!!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

My first degree was Electrical Engineering and even as an undergraduate I always ran a study group to facilitate my classmates understanding of the processes. Math should be taught as a foreign language. In our current education system, you either "get" math or you don't. I have developed methods to teach high level math to "non math" students.

ACT Reading

I have spent years reverse engineering the ACT and have discovered processes that can help raise your score.

AFOQT

I have tutored the ASVAB for over 5 years with great success. The Air Force test is extremely similar.

Algebra 2

I have 18 hours of Math courses taken in the math department of Texas A&M with a 4.0 GPA. All of the Electrical Engineering courses were basically advanced math courses disguised as circuits.

ASVAB

I have tutored many students for the ASVAB using the same techniques that I have used very successfully for SAT and ACT test preparation.

Biostatistics

I have a PhD in Statistics and have worked and tutored many students in biostatistics. Biostatistics is very similar to the statistics used in most of the social sciences with the exception that they throw in time series analysis. I am also proficient with time series analysis from my stats training as well as electrical engineering.

Business

My qualifications for certification are as follows:

1. I have an MBA and have worked for both large and small companies as a financial analyst and consultant for many years learning the businesses from all aspects.

2. I have grown and owned 4 companies over the years and sold one of them to a Fortune 5 company, which gave me the additional insight of ownership and the view of a stakeholder.

3. I have taught business, finance, and entrepreneurship at several major universities which sharpened my skills of teaching and communicating ideas to others at many different levels.

These 3 areas uniquely qualify me to tutor business.

CFA

I have taken and passed part 1 of the CFA exam.

Econometrics

I have a PhD in Statistics which included a lot of economics. I have also used econometrics to construct several algorithms that I sold to GMAC. I have worked in the field since 1990 and tutored many students along the way. Econometrics is very similar to the statistics used in most of the social sciences with the exception that they throw in time series analysis. I am also proficient with time series analysis from my stats training as well as electrical engineering.

Electrical Engineering

I have a degree in electrical engineering with a 3.65 grade point average. I ran a study group all through my program and have privately tutored EE for the past 10 years.

Finance

MBA in Finance. Have taught Real Estate Finance at 3 major universities. Also wrote 6 chapters in the text.

Microsoft Excel

I have a PhD in Statistics and have used the data analysis add in Excel extensively both in consulting practice and tutoring statistics.

PSAT

Most parents don't realize how extremely important the PSAT is because it is the gateway for National Merit Scholarship.

SAS

I have been an SAS user since 1984 and have been tutoring SAS for over 10 years. In addition, I am certified in SPSS and statistics and have a PhD in Stats.

SPSS

Over 15 years with SPSS. Started writing scripts.

Statistics

I have a PhD in Statistics and have worked and tutored many students in statistics. I am also proficient with time series analysis from my stats training as well as electrical engineering.

Trigonometry

As engineers were required to take 5 calculus courses. Calculus 2 was entirely based around trigonometry. My deep understanding of trigonometry got me through Calculus 2 and many engineering courses.
