As a registered nurse, I have always worked in pediatrics with a focus in oncology. Additionally, I was a hospital educator and obtained certification as a nationally qualified certified biotherapy instructor. Other areas of interest included working as a research manager and submitting studies to the IRB.
My master's program was completed at Texas Woman's University where I also was in Sigma Theta Tau honor society and graduated with honors. As a clinical preceptor, I have assisted over one hundred students complete their clinical hours.
I earned my doctorate in 2018 with capstone project studying bonding and attachment in the maternal-child dyad.
My time as a university professor has been extremely rewarding, I enjoy adult learners and helping them to understand concepts and become experts in their coursework by meeting students where they are academically and giving them the necessary tools to succeed.
Currently, I practice as a pediatric nurse practitioner in a large urban hospital, primarily focusing on low income, Spanish speaking patients. I also work one day a week at a local pediatric urgent care.
I have three teenage daughters, three dogs and I love to read, work in my garden, knit and when time permits, travel.
My style of teaching is a blend of direct instruction and student-centered, inquiry based learning, focusing on fostering critical thinking and engagement through a variety of methods.
I look forward to meeting and
collaborating with you.
