My goal as a tutor is to help my students with their blocks with specific subjects while also teaching them specific techniques they can use to excel in all of their classwork.
I have experience tutoring in Algebra 1 and 2, as well as American History and Writing. I enjoy tutoring in these subjects because I have a strong understanding of the subjects as well as the study techniques required to succeed in them. My eventual goal in tutoring is to help students understand material while also equipping them to succeed in the future. Watching students grow is one of my favorite parts about tutoring; I find it incredibly fulfilling to help someone and watch them be able to stand on their own and hopefully pass on their knowledge and skills to others.
Math is all about breaking up one large (and supposedly complex) equation into multiple smaller and simpler steps. With my approach to teaching algebra, my students will be able to solve their problems faster and more accurately as well as test-taking techniques that can improve their scores by minimizing unnecessary mistakes.
Writing is more technical than many students understand. Through my time in the SMU Honors Program and beforehand in High School, I learned all about different structural forms for different types of essays, how to cite and format a paper correctly, as well as ways to smoothly integrate writing techniques such as metaphors, alliteration, and hyperbole.
