I am a retired math teacher with 30 years experience and a lifetime Texas Teaching Certificate in Math (Grades 1-12). As a former CFISD teacher I have taught at several of the middle schools, as well as, high school and have held several leadership positions. My tutoring began many years ago when one of the area school counselors asked me to help high school students pass the state mandated tests. I really enjoyed helping these students and expanded the tutoring to cover daily coursework, ASVAB tests and college entrance exams. I prefer working with students in the 7th - 10th grade (middle school math through Geometry). In addition to teaching and tutoring I have also worked as a SME (subject matter expert) writing curriculum for an online education company.
Many people can work math problems but a successful tutor is one who is liked and respected by their students (and parents). This requires an ability to create trust and rapport with young people which I have always been able to do. I always try to make my students comfortable, organized, successful and confident.
I am very flexible in scheduling because I realize that family life does not always adhere to desired schedules and teachers love "pop quizzes". I prefer to tutor at my home (Fairfield) where I have a designated tutoring area with no distractions and where I have materials that would be difficult to haul around. I am knowledgeable about the "Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills" (TEKS) and have contacts at the district for any additional information. Lori tutored my High School freshman son in GATE Geometry. She was very knowledgeable about the material and familiar with the text. As a former math teacher, she understood how to most effectively present the information. She helped my son in understanding the concepts, but even more she helped him with organization, note taking, and study hints. She was very responsive both by phone and email, and she was very accommodative of our schedule. I enthusiastically recommend Lori to tutor your child.
Lori is a wonderful math tutor. She has done wonders for my son in Algebra 1. She has many resources available and having been a math teacher and a mother she understands the dynamics of kids and math difficulties. She has done wonders for my son in a short period of time. Lori has been very flexible with scheduling.
Lori is an amazing tutor. She has a mannerism that helps our daughter learn and is extremely knowledgeable in algebra. We have been blessed by her tutoring our daughter.
Lori has proven to be an excellent tutor. She has played a major role in helping my daughter maintain a high GPA after struggling with Geometry. Lori explained the lessons in ways that were easier to comprehend. She has been extremely flexible with scheduling and has always been easily available by phone. I had never hired a tutor or met Lori prior to using WyzAnt. Would I recommend Lori as a math tutor? Absolutely yes!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
