Texas A & M University
I graduated in 1985 from Texas A&M University in College Station. I went on to teach for 13 years in the public school system, mostly in the elementary grades, before giving birth to twin boys. I chose to stay home and raise my children after that. Since that time, I have taught an additional three years in the parochial school system in both junior high and high school. I have taught a number of individuals out of my home, and I have also taught flute to a variety of ages and abilities. I taught one semester of remedial reading (level 2)as an adjunct professor at a local junior college.
I currently homeschool my children and work outside the home when possible. I can teach reading, writing and spelling in grades K-12. At the college level I can teach remedial reading, English, and writing. This includes research paper writing as well as writing at all levels.
While my real love is writing, my expertise is reading at all levels. I am particularly good with struggling early readers (K-3) as I have extensive training in phonics. Additionally, in my tutoring, I use many of my own techniques which have proven effective over the years.
I bring a wide variety of techniques, some old and some new, to my tutoring sessions. Each child is different and unique, and what method or technique works for one child will not necessarily work for the next. A good tutor has a wealth of ideas to choose from in dealing with students. I will work with your child to fill in their weaknesses and give them confidence in their strengths. I will gladly contact the student's classroom teacher to determine what extra help they need if necessary.
If, after speaking with you about your needs, I feel that I cannot help you I will tell you so. You are then free to find someone else better suited to your needs.

My child is 6 yrs old, having trouble with her reading. Ms. P. is excellent. She has only had a few lessons and already progressing. Her techniques are great!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a B.S. from Texas A & M University in College Station, TX. I worked for 15 years teaching grades 1-8.
I began playing flute at the age of 12. I went on to play 1st chair in my high school band as well as making all-district (4 years), all region (3 years) and all area (2 years). I received numerous other awards throughout my years in high school. In college I played with the Baytown Symphony Orchestra as well as the Texas A & M University Symphonic Band. I have continued to play for weddings, funerals, and church functions throughout my adult life and I have been teaching privately again for the past five years.
I graduated with a B.S. in Education (K-8) from Texas A & M University with a minor in reading. I went on to teach 13 years in grades K-3. Most of those years were spent in second grade with reluctant readers. I was trained in Project Read about 1990 as well as several smaller programs throughout my years as a teacher. I use a variety or approaches, some from training and some of my own, to get results from reluctant readers.
I started off as a music major in college, and at that time began playing the piano, I went on to study for a number of years off and on. My beginning piano students learn not only how to play, but the also learn music theory as well as some music history.
