Hello! My name is Laura! I am from the Rio Grande Valley, in deep south Texas. I have been teaching social studies since 2012 and am currently working on my Master's thesis in Mexican American history. I started teaching as a Teach for America corps member in my hometown and continued teaching in the Dallas-Forth Worth area after that.
I have primarily taught 8th and 11th grade Social Studies which is STAAR tested. I love supporting young people in state tested subjects (STAAR and AP) so they can build confidence to pass the end of course exam. At the college level, I have been a teacher's assistant in World History and Western Civilization. At this level I enjoy supporting students in strengthening their writing and research skills.
All in all, if you are looking for an experienced k-12 or college history tutor, I am your person! This is my passion and I look forward to sharing skills, tips and tricks to being successful on exams, research projects, and writing.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Anthropology. In 2012, I conducted field work in a Mayan village in the Yucatan Peninsula.

As a history teacher I have created writing strategies to support all types of student learners. I have primarily taught 8th and 11th grade U.S. history. I have strong skills in tracking TEKS student data, and by tracking student data. Through this data I can identify a student's strengths and weakness.
