About Laura

For the past four years, I have been working as a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) at Texas A&M for various biology courses as I earned my Master of Science in Biology. I was also a Teaching Assistant (TA) as an undergraduate at Occidental College (Los Angeles, CA) and tutored high school students in Biology and Algebra as a fellow high school student.

Reviews from my students at A&M were always strong, as I am an enthusiastic teacher and am passionate about learning. As a GTA at A&M, I held weekly office hours, which were essentially one-on-one tutoring sessions with my students. I have worked with all types of learners, from those who learn best through hands-on exercises to those who are visual learners, and I know how to adjust my teaching plan according to my students' needs.

I am available every day from 8 am-9 pm and am willing to travel to students or tutor them online. My rate is $45/hour and my cancellation policy is 12 hours.

I hope to hear from you soon! Feel free to contact me with any questions.

As a strong math student, I received A's in all of my math classes: Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus 1, Calculus 2, and Differential Equations. I have always considered math my strongest subject in school and have tutored students in this subject before, helping them bring their grades up from failing to passing. I also earned high scores in math on the GRE, SAT, and ACT and am willing to tutor students to prepare for these tests.

While earning my Master of Science in Biology, I worked as a GTA at Texas A&M University for the past four years, teaching the following undergraduate courses: Zoology for Non-Majors, Introduction to Biology, Critical Writing in Biology, and Genes, Ecology, and Evolution. I was also a TA as an undergraduate at Occidental College for Vertebrate Physiology.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Zoology

I have taught Zoology at Texas A&M University for the past four years. The course is Biology 107: Zoology for Non-Majors, and covers all the major animal phyla. I teach my students the differences of different animal groups based on symmetry, number of germ layers, absence or presence of a coelom, types of organs, circulations, motility, etc. I have created lectures, assignments, quizzes, and exams for the Zoology course and thoroughly understand the material. I have taught in both the lecture hall and the laboratory, giving me hands-on experience with Zoology that solidifies my knowledge and makes me a great teacher in the subject.

I've had tutors in the past but she is by far the best one I've had! She was easy to understand and explains everything very well with simplicity. Wish we had more teachers like Laura!
