Stanford University (International Rel.)
In high school I was extremely dedicated to my education, earning a 3.9 GPA and gaining admission to Stanford University. I took 7 AP classes and I scored a perfect 800 on the SAT math section and a 34 on the ACT math section. Since graduating, I have logged thousands of hours tutoring elementary, middle, and high-school students. I have tutored many students in subjects such as Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Chemistry, & Physics. My 4+ years of tutoring and classroom teaching have sharpened my understanding. From advanced to remedial, I have seen it all and I can tell you there is always a way to improve a student's understanding--and grade! There is nothing more rewarding than a student boasting to me about his or her improvement.
My approach to tutoring is fairly simple. First I like to get to know the student. The most important thing is that we get along and build an environment of trust. Then, I sit with the student as he or she works through problems, offering helpful hints, but also answering questions with questions to try to coax new understanding and growth out of the student.
I will often make custom lessons if a student seems to be struggling and I love to incorporate online resources if I think they will help.
I typically tutor privately in a student's home, but I am always open to other suggestions. I am very accommodating and have a flexible schedule. While I do have a 24 hour cancellation policy, I am happy to offer make up lessons.
Fundamentally, I am positive and encouraging and I have a wealth of knowledge to share. I'm looking forward to working with my next student! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have tutored three students through full-year algebra 2 courses.
