I am currently a college student studying economics, which has sharpened my analytical and quantitative skills through coursework in statistics, calculus, and data-driven problem solving. My passion for test prep comes directly from my own experience with the SAT and ACT. I scored a 1570 on the SAT and a 34 on the ACT, and getting there required me to really understand the structure and logic of both exams, not just memorize formulas. That process taught me strategies I now love passing on to students.
My tutoring style is upbeat and student-focused. I like to start by getting a clear picture of where a student feels stuck, whether that is a specific math concept, pacing issues, or just general test anxiety, and then build from there. I explain things conversationally, use real examples, and always make sure a student understands why an answer is correct rather than just accepting that it is. Keeping sessions fun and low-pressure is really important to me because I think students learn better when they are not stressed out.
I have worked with friends and classmates on SAT and ACT prep as well as math coursework in one on one and small group settings. I enjoy tutoring middle and high school students most, and I find that building rapport early makes a huge difference in how quickly they improve. Watching a student gain confidence over the course of a few sessions is honestly the most rewarding part of this for me.
