About Danil

Bio

I can help with almost any subject in Mathematics and Computer Science. I've tutored for more than 12 years, worked as a teaching assistant for Calculus sequence and PDEs, and taught math courses for a few years at community colleges in Houston area. I especially like tutoring Matlab, Calculus and Linear Algebra. I have a MS in Applied Math from the University of Houston and a BS with dual major in Math/Comp Sci.

My goal is to teach a student to learn on their own and be able to keep up with their class without further assistance. Sometimes that involves patching up gaps in prerequisite skills (like Trig in Calculus class). Other times, it may involve getting the student to open their textbook or watching patiently as the student finds their way through a problem and builds some confidence. I prepare for every student lesson, so that we make effective use of our time. To help me do that, please send me any materials you want to go over, at least a few hours before the session. I do not charge for any time I spend preparing for lessons.

Academic Honesty: For computer programming projects, I will not take students that want to pay me to write an entire project. I expect you to write at least 50% of the code and understand 100%, with my help if needed. I will not help with upper graduate courses, graduate research projects, reading scientific papers, helping write doctoral dissertations and any job requests where I am not directly tutoring someone.

GRE,

GRE

Took the GRE sometime in 2010 and scored in the 98th percentile in the General Math section. I can definitely help improve your GRE math score. (My GRE Verbal score was average in the 64th percentile. Given that English is not my native language, I am far from the best guy to help improve your GRE verbal score)

C#,

C#

I've used C# as an intern for an oil industry company to code numerical algorithms and graphical interfaces. In another 2 year part time job for a marketing company, I used C# to access web api to download financial data in xml format, store it in mssql database and display that data in a nice asp.net website.
C++,

C++

I used C++ since I learned to program in 2006. My C++ projects include a distributed traffic simulation, several machine learning and image processing projects using OpenCV and ITK libraries, and numerical algorithms using GSL library to supplement Matlab codes.
Computer Science,

Computer Science

I've worked as an intern and contractor for a couple oil industry companies in Houston, doing mathematical programming. I also worked for a marketing research company as their 'website, database, fix-my-email-is-not-working' IT guy. As a grad student, I did more coding in Matlab and C++ than actual Math. I have a Math and Comp Sci degree from University of Houston, Downtown.
MATLAB,

MATLAB

I started using Matlab in 2008 as an undergraduate. Over the years, I've used Matlab to work with Finite Elements method as a graduate student, then image processing and medical imaging, and NMR inversion code as oil industry contractor. I love Matlab and can help you with any Matlab project. (I can't help with Simulink though, so don't ask).

Guitar

I've played guitar for over 20 years as a hobby and can help you learn fingerstyle classical guitar. Message me for a link to my youtube guitar channel to see if this style is something you would be interested to learn or for a sample of pieces I can teach. (Wyzant does not allow links here) I am not a professional guitarist, but I can teach you the basics and advanced techniques, for a far smaller price than pros would charge.

Sincerely the best

I've worked with many tutors to get help with my C projects, and for many months, Danil has always been prepared, knowledgeable, patient, and truly the best. I have never had a bad session with him, because I always learn something new and make progress. I cannot recommend him enough!!

Knowledgable and resourceful

Daniel has been great as a statistics tutor. He has helped me improve my understanding of the discipline and improve my test scores. He's way to talk to and he will take the time to understand exactly what you're studying offline.

Very knowledgeable and patient.

Danil taught me how neural networks work in machine learning. He walked me through a neural net step by step. I've been attempting to learn neural networks on my own for a while now, and now I finally have a firm understanding. Danil is definitely a great teacher.

Danil helps where I need it

Danil did a great job helping to get me through AP Calc problems that other tutors weren't able to do. He was able to help lift my grade in the class. He was extremely helpful where I needed it.

Great Computer Science Tutor!

Danil is an excellent computer science and discrete mathematics tutor. He helped me design a complex dynamic programming algorithm and implement it in Python. He explained the problem in ways I was able to understand, and I'm confident I’ll apply the knowledge and skills I learned from him to solve future problems. This guy is great! He's very patient, knowledgeable, and eager to help you understand advanced computer science problems.

So helpful and patient!

Danil has a great ability to explain and get the student to problem solve. He has been so helpful with MATLAB and I will use him again. One of the best and most patient tutors I have had!
