About Monica

I am a college graduate working with high school students in a core class of Mathematics. I am currently a Geometry teacher and will be continuing my role as an educator.

I am currently earning a certification in Mathematics; therefore, I utilize information on Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 and Trigonometry on a daily basis. Furthermore, I utilize visual manipulatives for students that need extra help in visualizing their progress in understanding the material.

Also, I believe students have loss the insight on why we need Math in our lives. I use projects to push students to work with applied Math. These projects include, scale factoring, geometric shapes, surface area, volume, and area to create, build, and apply a budget to build a working zoo model. This process open a new line of thinking and applying skills. Therefore, my students work hard in building a foundation in Geometry as well as, scoring high on unit exams.

In the classroom, I teach using different styles to reach as many students as possible. Also, I like to create different methods for them to apply Math rather than just seeing different ways to manipulate numbers on a sheet of paper. Math is a big puzzle to solve, it can be fun or it can frustrating if a person does not understand how to fit the pieces together.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

My qualifications are built on the understanding of Mathematical processes and repetition. Additionally, through my teaching experience I have the capability to utilize different methods teaching to reach the student's learning abilities. I am currently teaching Algebra 1 at Yes College Preparatory School and Geometry. Furthermore, I held tutoring sessions after school to help struggling and high achieving students to raise their grades and reach their potential in Math.

Algebra 2

Algebra textbooks ask excellent questions about different topics; however, by the time a student is ready to work on their homework he/she may not understand what the question is asking. Your student may have a hard time remembering how to solve each problem; consequently, I am here to help guide your child through motivational techniques, clear instructions, and interactive lessons. My methods build a strong foundation for their future learning.

Elementary Math

As an experienced Math teacher, I have the capabilities to push students to achieve their highest potential within the subject. As well as, understanding the basic fundamentals of logical problem solving. Furthermore, understand the different learning styles enables me to adapt lesson plans to further their comprehension and achieve highest marks.

Geometry

Students enter Geometry with a certain mindset and a foundation to solve with numbers and patterns. Geometry utilizes deductive reasoning, inductive reasoning, and visualization of geographic images to solve real-life situations. Students must develop if-then statements to prove their mathematical reasoning. This geometric relationship is the foundation and can be complex; therefore, interactive lessons help students understand their analytical reasoning.

Homeschool

As an experienced Math teacher, I have the capabilities to push students to achieve their highest potential within the subject. As well as, understanding the basic fundamentals of logical problem solving. Furthermore, understand the different learning styles enables me to adapt lesson plans to further their comprehension and achieve highest marks.

Prealgebra

Prealgebra is the basic foundation for algebra. It is really important for students to understand the building blocks before entering Algebra 1. Students are introduced to negative numbers, variables, solving equations, inequalities, etc. With so many concepts, students struggle. I am able to build a strong foundation by utilizing manipulatives, interactive lessons, and strong communication skills.
