Since I was little, I've loved helping others learn. I greatly valued education and I have seen what it can do for people. Because of this, I strive to stay ahead of the game as I go above and beyond to learn new skills. To help reinforce these skills and to benefit the community as a whole, I spread this knowledge to others. For years I have tutored students in subjects ranging from math to chemistry to agriculture and music. Nothing ever seemed too far-fetched for me to learn and teach. I gained a lot of recognition in my hometown for my efforts. Everyone knew who to ask if they had a question. I either had an answer or I'd find an answer. My influence got to the point where several teachers allowed to tutor/teach during their class periods because they knew that I could get the message across quite well. It was a lot of fun to be able to help so many students at once in an experience that most people never receive.

Today I am a chemistry and horticulture double major with a minor in mathematics. I love these subjects immensely and I tutor quite frequently on campus. I've had dozens of students come to me for help already. I love seeing their GPA's increase. Hearing their thanks gives me the satisfaction of knowing that I did something right for someone.

My methods of tutoring include visualization as well as tying lessons into previous classes. By doing that, the material makes more sense to students. There quickly becomes less memorization of abstract material and more critical thinking on knowledge they already have. When I am done tutoring, students have a better understanding of the subject to the point where they see applications of it in their every day lives. That excited me more than anything. A lot of teachers don't inspire the students by telling them the applications of the material. By inspiring students, I create a community of learners that is more dedicated to achieve greater heights in their education. I have seen my students go out of their way to learn new things and come back to me to discuss what they have learned with excitement on their faces. There honestly is no greater thrill.

As a fun addition, a lot of the material I teach ends up being used by the people I work with in their own homes and personal lives. My background in horticulture has allowed me to help train avid gardeners using horticulture, chemistry, and biology. My background in chemistry has inspired budding chemists who use their knowledge for a variety of things to include anything from extractions to making their own cleaning solutions. My teachings in chemistry and biology have even taught people to be skeptical of health claims made by the media that don’t follow basic biology or chemistry. These subjects are very much a part of our lives and I love showing that there are actually applications to our studies.

I look forward to meeting with you in the future. I hope I can help you achieve higher academic success.

Homeschool

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

Algebra was easy for me to pick up. It made a lot of sense and I spend a lot of time using it and teaching it to students. I am also mathematics minor.
Chemistry,

Chemistry

I am a Chemistry major at Texas A&M University.
Geometry,

Geometry

I received an A in geometry. I used to teach geometry to my peers back home. I enjoy the subject as it closely relates to my studies in physics, chemistry, and horticulture. I am also a mathematics minor.
Physics,

Physics

I have taken two physics courses (mechanics and electricity/magnetism/optics) and excelled in both courses, especially mechanics. I taught the mechanics course and general physics to several college students as well as high school students. I have also taken a semester of physical chemistry and I am about to start my second. In addition, due to my scores in physics, my university has asked me to apply for a teaching position for next semester.
SAT Math,

SAT Math

I received an almost perfect score on the SAT Math test when I took it. I also have access to practice tests and information on all the changes that the SAT will be putting in effect within the next year. I am also a math minor with a lot of experience in math courses.

Math

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

Algebra was easy for me to pick up. It made a lot of sense and I spend a lot of time using it and teaching it to students. I am also mathematics minor.
Finite Math,

Finite Math

Since finite math is a combination of several maths, it is not a difficult one for me to grasp. I am quite proficient in algebra which covers most of the course. I have also spent a lot of time working in other branches of math so these are not too difficult to teach when they come up in finite. I have been tutoring in finite math for a while now and I have seen a few syllabi so I already know what to expect in this subject and I have not reached any difficulties.
Geometry,

Geometry

Music

Clarinet,

Clarinet

I played clarinet for a semester in high school. I have also occasionally played it for the past 4 years in order to teach other students. I have taught clarinet to dozens of middle school and high school students. I love the instrument and can teach the basics of it as well as sight reading and general music techniques. I do well with beginners.
General Music,

General Music

I played a dozen different instruments well in high school. I taught all of them in the classroom (the director let me lead multiple lessons). I can transpose music and I have arranged compositions for my own personal use in a small band that I used to teach and direct for local functions.
Trombone,

Trombone

I played trombone for a semester in high school. I played it for a few concerts and I taught classes on it when my director allowed me to cover for him. It was a fairly simple instrument to learn and I did not even require a position chart to learn the instrument as it was easy to use math and common knowledge of another instrument to determine the positions. I later verified all these positions to be correct and received lessons from a trombone player of over 40 years.
Trumpet

Trumpet

I spent 11 years playing trumpet. I advanced to area competition on trumpet. I am a member of a band and a member of the college concert band. I also taught music back home.

Science

Botany,

Botany

I study horticulture which is what my university offers in place of botany. Although there is a difference between botany and horticulture, they have a lot of overlap as they are both the science of plants. I have now taken numerous plant classes such as plant propagation, nursery production, plant identification (herbaceous landscaping plants), plant physiology, various labs, and a general course on plants. In addition, I have taken biology classes and biochemistry classes that touch on plants. I have spent the past few years both tutoring and studying with other students. In addition to this, anyone who has been to my greenhouse has heard me speak of methods of reproduction, plant hormones, nutrition, photo-systems, etc. This subject is definitely a passion of mine and I greatly enjoy learning new information and sharing it with others.
Chemistry,

Chemistry

I am a Chemistry major at Texas A&M University.
Organic Chemistry,

Organic Chemistry

I have already completed two semesters of organic chemistry. I have completed two semesters of biochemistry which are just biological applications of organic chemistry. I have also completed two lab semesters in organic and I understand and can teach the mechanisms in each of the experiments. I have been tutoring in this subject for the past several months. When teaching this class/the lab, I focus on visualizing the mechanisms to facilitate learning the material.

Great 1st session!

James was quick to respond to our request for tutoring, and was able to accommodate my son’s need for same day tutoring. Will continue to use James😊

Amazing detail

James seriously broke down pieces of AP Chem into something easier that I could understand! He explained it thoroughly and actually allowed me to work out the problems to my understanding!! He was great.

Great communicator

My son was struggling to understand his Chemistry teacher at school. He was afraid of falling behind. He feels more confident to go to class after meeting with James. We will definitely ask for his help again soon before a test. I liked his accommodating teaching style. He seems to know ahead of time where students might get tripped up, and he answered every one of my son’s questions clearly. Highly recommended!

Jennie, 12 lessons with James

Knowledgeable.

James did a great job of trying to explain some of the mechanisms in organic chemistry for me. I wasn’t fully prepared with questions to ask him since it was such a short notice but I feel like he made a few of the reactions easier to understand.

college algebra

I am lucky to have found James. His efficiency in the subject was amazing. He has a passion for math and is proficient in the work. He was patient and made sure I understood the work. Once we we're complete, James wrote a detailed and thorough review of what we have covered and what the main points were. I felt James is genuinely out to help and make sure I understand what I'm doing.
