My students take their success all the way to Ivy League colleges, scholarships, and medical schools! As one of the nation's top 1-3% scorers in the SAT, MCAT, ACS-GCE, a cum laude graduate in mathematics and physics, a former Google Networks quant analyst, and a medical student, I know what it takes to turn academic success into tangible results. I LOVE science and math, and have a decade of experience helping students succeed. I've taught math and science as a private school teacher and tutor, at a university science lab, and for one of the nation's leading test prep companies.

I graduated with an honors level degree in Mathematics, with a minor in Physics. I absolutely LOVE the "difficult" stuff, and enjoy working with students to develop a sincere enthusiasm about science and math. My areas of specialty are the MCAT and SAT, the primary sciences (physics, biology, chemistry), and math. I have tutored students from all over the country, from high school to undergraduate and graduate students at leading universities like Notre Dame, Tufts, and Harvard University.

My approach to tutoring is based on a genuine passion for the sciences. I work patiently, one-on-one with students to help identify where they are struggling, and work with them from the ground up to develop an understanding... not just pass a test. Many of my students have chosen to work with me for years as they work on their college application process, or completing their science/math degrees.

As a high school student, I self-taught my way to a 97th percentile SAT score, and my writing was nationally published before the age of 18. In college I ran my university's physics lab and worked as assistant to the Dean of Science, tutoring physics and all areas of mathematics. After college I worked as a science and math teacher in Dallas, and then as tutor for a national MCAT tutoring company. I scored in the 99th percentile on the American Chemical Society General Chemistry exam, and in the 98-99th percentile on the MCAT (medical school entrance exam), including scoring in the 100th percentile on physics and chemistry, and verbal reasoning. I've helped students raise their MCAT, SAT and science exam scores significantly, and most importantly helped them gain confidence in these subjects!

Past students of mine have gone on to earn full ride scholarships to college, and gain admission to great medical schools. I look forward to helping you write YOUR success story, starting now!

Please note: I book out very quickly, so please let me know your schedule preference as soon as possible. While some "same week" appointments are available, popular times book out up to 3 months in advance. All sessions are 2 hours long, and students must give a 24 hour notice or more for cancellations. For SAT and MCAT inquiries, please send prior/practice test results with your inquiry to maximize response efficiency. I look forward to working with you! -Matt

SAT Reading

SAT Reading

Is your student struggling with the SAT reading section? When I was a high school student, I remember my first experience with English on the SAT. I remember being bummed at the results, but that motivated me to make a change - to learn what I needed to learn, to improve my SAT vocabulary, and to unravel the format of the test. And it worked! My section score came back just a couple questions shy of a perfect 800 - I couldn't believe it had jumped into the 99th percentile. That was over a decade ago, but since then, I've helped many students to overcome the challenge of the SAT and meet or exceed their score goals. As I work with your student, I'll teach them a neuroscience-based approach that has worked time and time again. Not only will they learn skills to improve for this test, they'll learn techniques that can keep helping them succeed in the future, no matter what their plans are.

Algebra 1

Algebra can be both fun and interesting! I have an honors level degree in mathematics, and ranked near the top of my class for algebra topics all the way through theoretical abstract and matrix algebra. I've been tutoring math for over a decade, and have helped students of all ages ace their algebra classes. My students also get unique insights into just how useful Algebra can be! As a former professional mathematician who worked as a quant analyst for Google Analytics platform companies, I've used Algebra in the real world to predict how money, marketing, and even people, follow mathematical patterns. If your student is struggling to understand the "what" and the "why" for their math class, contact me today!
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I have a degree in mathematics and ten years of tutoring and teaching experience, former Google networks analyst.
Biology,

Biology

I am a former science teacher, add have tutored biology for students across the U.S., including scholarship prize winners and students at Ivy League universities like Harvard and Yale.
Chemistry,

Chemistry

My students enjoy chemistry... "Really?!" If your student is struggling with chemistry right now, that might seem a little hard to believe. But it's true! There is nothing quite as rewarding as the feeling you get when you've just aced a test in a subject that everyone knows is challenging, like, say, Chemistry! I won't just show your student how to "do chemistry problems," but rather I'll work with them from the ground up to understand the subject. In college, I scored near the top of my class in chemistry, and ranked in the top 1% in the United States on the American Chemical Society General Chemistry exam, and since then I've worked with students from all over the country to master the subject. Let's turn your student into a chemistry rock star!
Physics,

Physics

I hold an honors level degree with a minor in physics. I ran a university physics tutoring lab for around 3 years, and have tutored the topic for almost a decade. My physics students have gone on to rank in the top 10% in the nation on standardized exams. Academically, I ranked in the 99.9th percentile for physics on the national medical school exam (the Physical Sciences sub-exam of the MCAT). What makes my physics tutoring different is that I don't just provide an explanation of the equations, but a conceptual framework to integrate the variety of ideas (from Newtonian kinematics, to electromagnetism).
Prealgebra,

Prealgebra

I have ranked nationally on exam performance (97th-100th percentile for over a decade), am a former Google Networks analyst, have an honors degree in mathematics and physics, have spent years running a university lab, and a decade of happy students from local schools to Harvard.
SAT Math,

SAT Math

SAT math can feel intimidating... until you realize that all of their problems are taken from just a handful of topic areas. I'm here to work with students to find the gaps that keep them from achieving great SAT math scores, and to give them the tools and insights to make even the most complex SAT problems simple to solve. I have a BS with honors in mathematics, and a history of strong scores for standardized exams, including 97th percentile SAT and 98th percentile MCAT scores (the MCAT is a little like a "ramped up SAT" exam). Over the past 10 years, I've helped students from all backgrounds meet or exceed their score goals, and seen students go on to earn scholarships and acceptances to top universities across the state and the country. I'd love to be there to help your student earn a score they're proud of!

Great tutor

My AP Physics student learned more in the first hour of tutoring then in 7 weeks of class at Plano West (her teacher is not able to communicate the lessons at all and condescends when is asked questions). Although tutoring is expensive, the time is well used and will pay off in keeping my student with high grades and chances at academic scholarships. I am very happy to have found this young man on Wyzant and would recommend him hands down.

Julie, 3 lessons with Matt

Had a great approach to tutoring my teenage son.

Matt not only helped my son understand his Algebra II, but talked about tools/resources to help him study more effectively. My son said, "Wow, he is really smart, I learned alot, I liked the lesson." That statement from a 16 year old boy is more than you can hope for. I feel like the session motivated my son as well. So, win-win...

Great tutor

He was great, i had one two hour session with him and he explained everything clearly. I met up with him to help me review for my final exams that were literally in the next two days and he helped me understand things better and thought me different methods to solve a problem. I have always struggled in math and he helped me pass my final exam!

Outstanding

I was very nervous to leave my son with someone I met online. Matt is excellent- not only has he helped my son academically- but his self confidence grew 100% after one session. He is outgoing and extremely enthusiastic. He's a great tutor and mentor.

Brilliant teacher, very personable

Cleared up some concepts and explained WHY not just what. My daughter had a great experience! We will definitely continue to request Matt in the future.

Great Tutor and Very Enthusiastic!

I was tutored for AP physics 1 and Matt was very helpful! I have tutored with him twice so far and he has helped me raise my grade in class tremendously! I would definitely recommend him to other teenagers struggling with any science or math.

Look no further

I have had several sessions with Matt, and they all have been great. I am an adult learner and back in school after a very long hiatus. Matt is very good at explaining complicated concepts in a way that makes sense. I would highly recommend him based on my experiences.
