About Valerie

I am a certified teacher for the state of Texas with specialized certification in ESL. Most recently I taught a Spanish II Honors Course to 7th & 8th grade students. I have taught 4th grade Bilingual which was Spanish and English in all elementary subjects (Math, Science, Reading, Grammar, ESL) English Conversation, English Pronunciation. I love to tutor both adults and children whether you are preparing for the TOEFL or just need some extra help with Math homework for your child. Perhaps you need an English Conversation Partner; I have over 10 years experience with Asian & Latin accents. I have helped students prepare for the American Citizenship Exam and I have help PhD's with their English Pronunciation and accent reduction. My focus & passion is Spanish Language tutoring.

I employ various methods as I individually tailor each lesson to your goals and needs. Lessons can be taught through whichever method you prefer. Conversation, workbook style lessons or thematic units or simply editing papers or homework assistance.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am certified as an Elementary Ed. Teacher (1-6) by the state of Texas. I have previous experience teaching 4th grade self-contained all subject areas. I have tutored elementary all the way through to Ph.D students and international scientists.

ESL/ESOL

I am certified to teach English and ESL which is English as a Second Language by the state of Texas. I love to work with either adults or children is this area. I live in College Station and I have my own transportation.

Reading

Reading is a life-long gift. I love to help people of all ages learn to unlock the mystery of reading. It would be an honor to help those who need a little boost or just want to get ahead in the game of academic life!

Soccer

I am well qualified to teach beginning through intermediate soccer lessons. I took soccer from 3rd through 8th grades. All 3 of my children have been on numerous soccer teams in the College Station Soccer League. My daughter is now on a very competitive level. I know all the basics of dribbling, ball control, passing, shooting, game rules such as those for throw-ins, cornerkicks, goal kicks, off sides as well as all the positions: goalie, fullbacks, sweeper, halfbacks and forwards. I feel extremely confident in my ability to teach soccer.

Spanish

Spanish is my love. This is what I am the most excited about teaching to people of all ages adults, teens and children! I am a College Station soccer mom and I would love to help you improve your Spanish speaking, reading or writing!

Swimming

I have successfully taught swimming to infants using the full body immersion method. The past two summers, I taught the step-splashers & bubble blowers level. I will also use the back float and breathe safety method for toddler safety courses. I can teach infants, toddlers, elementary age swimmers. I teach water safety and some strokes such as the backstroke, breast stroke, the american crawl and the side stroke. I have also trained children in kick boarding.

Helpful Spanish Lesson

Ms. Valerie helps our daughter with her Spanish homework. Our daughter is in a dual language program, and I can no longer keep up and explain the homework. Ms. Valerie makes the learning fun with a variety of activities, including games.
