I am originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and am a graduate of Louisiana State University. I studied Geology and Mechanical Engineering, and received a Bachelor of Science in Geology first, after 3 1/2 years. I began working in the Rocky Mountain oil province as a field engineer, and subsequently worked in many locations around the world. During a period of minimal activity in oil exploration during the 1980s, I worked for companies managing programs for the US Navy. I have also spent some time teaching at the high school level. I wrote the Pore Pressure and Fracture Gradients for Engineers and Geoscientists for the company Repsol.

I tutor Elementary math, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Trigonometry, and Calculus. I completed courses in differential equations and linear algebra, but I do not feel sufficiently confident to teach these courses.

I have a genuine interest in the student performing at the highest level possible. A source of personal pride is the ability to use math, and I want every student to feel that. There are methods to become successful with math. I want to help the students develop a method of study that will be most efficient for them to accomplish their individual goals.

Elementary Math

The elementary rules for arithmetic are the building blocks for all other math disciplines. Accomplishment requires a knowledge of, and an ability to use the rules and operations of arithmetic. Even in daily life, almost everything requires use of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. The ability to use arithmetic is critical to living in the world today. Let me help you accomplish what you will need for the success you are destined for.

Homeschool

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

Algebra has been a building block for my professional endeavors from the beginning of my working life. Initially I was trained to be an electronics technician. As such, I had to solve problems requiring algebraic techniques to troubleshoot circuits. While studying geology at LSU, the ability to use Algebra was a requirement for higher level math courses, such as Calculus, Differential Equations, and Linear Algebra. The ability to use Algebra is essential in almost every science course. After graduation, my specialty in geology became analysis of pressures in the Earth and the strength of the rock and its resistance to fracture at significant depths below the surface. I used Algebra to developed models to use geophysical data as input to calculate a fracture gradient pressure for rocks at significant depths prior to being drilled so an adequate drilling plan could be developed and the exploration well could be safely planned to mitigate the known risks. With a knowledge of Algebra, I would never have accomplished what I was able to do in oil exploration, or any field of endeavor in my professional life.

Trigonometry

Trigonometry

Trigonometry is a tool to understand and quantify spatial relationships, and transpose properties from something understood to something else that is considered to be similar. How long should a board be cut if a similar structure of a different size is to be manufactured? Trigonometry is useful to accomplish this. At what sea state is the average pressure of a submerged device within the limits of its design to operate? Trigonometry is also useful to answer this question. The usefulness of Trigonometry is unlimited. It is applicable to almost everything in nature. Let me help you acquire the skills to use Trigonometry to accomplish the goals you are destined to achieve.
