About LOREN

I am a retired Corporate lawyer having been a General Counsel of billion dollar corporations. One was based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and the other located in downtown Los Angeles, California. After retiring from the corporate world in 2005, I relocated to the San Antonio area from Los Angeles. In 2008, I became a Professor of Business Law and Labor Relations for Park University who has a campus at the Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. I terminated that position in 2012 for health reasons, but my health has been totally restored so I am able to resume my work with students that I enjoyed very much.

Because of my varied work experience in corporate law and teaching, I bring a perspective not always available to students, resulting in communicating with students the importance of learning and the joy of such endeavor. My teaching for 5 years at Park, I enjoyed the discussions and interaction with my students. I do not attempt to teach one side of any subject, but all areas in a fair manner so students can realize their is always more viewpoints regardless of the subject. One on one tutoring, I believe will provide me more opportunity to help students rather than the classroom. As a result, I consider this teaching to be most important in assisting individual students.

I have over 35 years of actual experience in large companies' legal departments involved in all areas of business activity and law. One of my employer was one the largest international reinsurance companies in the world, so I can bring a wider view of how business functions within the U.S. and internationally. Having taught Business Law and related subjects on the college level, I bring knowledge and experience that should help any student to learn.

History has always been one of my main interest in school and how government makes history. History explains where we came from and provides a direction of where we are going. It is sad for me that not more students know our American History and government makeup so they can make intelligent decisions regarding their futures. Knowing how government and politics affects us, I believe is most important if we are remain a democracy. In my early years as a lawyer in a District Attorney office, I have actual experience also in how our criminal law system works in this country.

In all of my student reviews at Park University, I received high marks from my students because I attempted to be a positive influence rather than judging them or being overly critical. Because of the past experience with young students. I am aware of changes being made and encourage students to contact me. It will always be my intent to help you in any way I can and together you can go forward in your respective subjects. I am currently open to any type of individual schedule any student may have so time can be used effectively for both parties. My only desire is to help and any student who could use my work experience and past teaching of these subjects, should contact me.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Career Development

Over the last 35 years,I have been employed as a lawyer as well as a human resource manager in several large corporations in Oklahoma, Texas and California.

As a result, I have been involved in the hiring process of several hundred employees in the retail and insurance industries. Not only in the hiring process. but management, teaching and promoting employees in different companies advancing existing employees to reach their full productiveness. Accordingly, this past experience I believe would assist me in advising persons who desire to move upward in their respective field of endeavor.

Criminal Justice

I served 3 years as a law clerk for the Oklahoma County District Court Clerk office in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Also, I served 1 year as a District Attorney Assistant in a county within the State of Oklahoma.

Also, part of my duties as General Counsel with a major retailer in 35 states, involved employee and customer criminal activities within our stores that where under my responsibility to represent the employer in all areas of criminal activity with state and local law enforcement.

Social Studies

I have a Bachelor of Arts degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University whereby my major was in Social Studies with over 60 hours completed. Also, I have a Juris Doctors Degree From Oklahoma City University whereby I studied areas of law dealing with social studies

During my 5 years of teaching on the college level, although my subjects where primarily in business law and labor law much of my teaching involved general social studies. Its impossible to teach law with out the social aspects of sociology, history and government makeup. My lectures always included how the social structure affected the laws and history development of our country. The U.S. social structure has been impacted by changes in race, economic and religious changes over the years By expanding this subject the students can learn the overall development of social changes in the United States.
