I'm Kate J., a 22-year-old female with a true passion for science and languages. I have been tutoring for six years now and have had great success with my students, ranging from middle school to college-age, and non-traditional students.

I began tutoring by helping middle school students while in high school. In college, I worked as a private organic chemistry and general chemistry tutor with the Science Center at Davidson College. During my university studies, I worked one-on-one with High school students preparing students for exams, helping with homework, and lots of ACT test preparation. Subjects ranged from remedial algebra, English, geometry, to calculus, physics and chemistry.

I have now also been tutoring Spanish at various levels for the past four years. I currently am teaching as a bilingual educator at a Texas School and have taught students in high school, and university as well as several in the business world who seek to become conversant in Spanish for career related reasons. The approach I take with each student depends on their current level of proficiency, their goals and their learning pace. I use a variety of teaching techniques as a means to practice grammar, spelling, and identifying common themes with non-Native and native English-speaking students. I’ve found that an individual with the ability to articulate through speech what they have put down on paper utilizes every aspect of learning a new language. In my class, the skills that students garner from reading a book, discussing its themes and concepts, writing about what they have read, and then orally presenting their writing are critical.

This past year, as a Thomas J. Watson Fellow, I have had the unique opportunity of teaching and tutoring elementary through high school aged students internationally in both Spanish and in English in various subjects, including math, science, and English as a second language.

I prefer one-on-one tutoring and enjoy engaging my students with fun and interactive problems. It is important for my students to understand the context in which they are learning/ solving problems!

Please contact me about any questions you may have! I look forward to working with you to reaching your GPA and test score goals!
