About Holly

Bio

I have taught English, Grammar, History, Speech, and Debate for the last seven years. I love teaching lessons from different angles to keep things interesting, understandable, and dare I say, fun! I was voted favorite teacher three years in a row by our student body, and I definitely work with each student in a way that best helps them. I truly believe I can help students find not only the best way to learn something, but also a love for even those subjects they may think they hate.

In my teaching, I feel it is very important to connect student's experiences and current events to whatever we are learning in order to better see the importance of the knowledge they are attaining. I like to create new ways to learn, practice, and study lessons. I do hold high expectations, which are challenging, and my students never fail to live up to them! In fact, wonderful gratitude is usually their response when the lightbulb goes off and they can finally feel confident in what they are doing. Tutoring is wonderful because I get to work one on one with a student to really suit their needs and pace. We also have a lot of laughs during the process!

I have a love for reading and writing! I love to read and incorporate different pieces of literature with one another, as well as see the current relation to kids' lives today and the world around them. I like to be creative in planning lessons and explaining how to best understand something. The lessons of literature go well beyond reading; they relate to understanding people, our world, history, and seeing things on a much deeper level.
Writing is also a passion of mine. I, myself, am a writer on the side. When grading or editing/revising a student's paper or work, I give very thorough notes. I have taught and tutored in grammar every year, and I use simple techniques to help students remember the rules of sentence structure. I have taught for 3 years in a Christian school, as well as several years in a public school. We are always integrating the Bible into the lessons at the private school, which has been wonderful!

Send me an email and let me help you find a way to love what you are doing! I love to praise you for your progress; then I encourage you to become even better. I believe making connections that actually matter to you in your life to whatever you are learning, as well as some fun and laughter, make learning more memorable and successful! Let's have some fun!
