About Keith

I hate boring lectures! Learning should be fun! I believe that my job entails motivating my students in addition to educating them. I have a passion for teaching, and I would love to help you achieve your academic goals. Please contact me and let me know how I can assist you.

Science Tutoring

Some aspects of science are counter-intuitive, which is why a good tutor can go a long way. I excel at simplifying complex ideas, and I use creative analogies to illustrate abstract concepts. I earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Notre Dame, and I have been teaching biology for more than 10 years. I currently teach microbiology labs at the University of Texas at Austin, and I tutor many high school and college students taking courses in AP biology, AP chemistry, genetics, and organic chemistry.

Test Prep

For high school students, no test is more important than the SAT or ACT. College students face the pressures of the MCAT, LSAT, GRE, and GMAT. Over the past 10 years, I have helped hundreds of students improve their testing skills, and my students have attended top universities, medical schools, and law schools across the country. I am an expert test taker with an LSAT score in the 99th percentile. I honestly enjoy standardized exams, and I encourage my students to think of them as puzzles rather than tests. If you suffer from test anxiety, or if you have struggled to improve your score on any of the exams mentioned above, let me help you! Many of my Hispanic and Asian students are English Language Learners, so I am very active in addressing the unique difficulties that minorities face on standardized exams.

Texas Bar Exam

Law school graduates who fail the bar exam find themselves in a tough predicament, and individuals with low LSAT scores have a high risk of failing the bar exam. In February 2013, I passed the Texas Bar Exam, and I am now helping law school graduates do the same. Last year, I worked with three bar prep students, all of whom subsequently passed the Texas Bar Exam. My experience in standardized testing is particularly helpful to students who are struggling with the MBE. I am also skilled in legal writing, and I can teach you effective techniques for the Texas Essay Subjects. As for bona fides, I am on the faculty of the University of Texas School of Law, and I taught Business Law and Ethics at the University of Texas McCombs School of Business. If you failed the bar exam, or if you are looking for an alternative to the major test prep companies, I can help you get your bearings. Contact me!

Thanks for reading my spiel. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. I bring a level of professionalism to tutoring that is missing from classroom instruction, and I would like to work for you. Let me know how I can earn your business!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bar Exam

I have worked in the test prep industry for more than 10 years. During that time, I mastered and taught the LSAT, MCAT, GRE, and SAT.

My academic record in law school was impeccable, and I served as an Associate Editor of Texas Law Review. After graduating from law school, I passed the Texas Bar Exam on my first attempt, and I spent a year working for a premier commercial litigation firm in Houston.

I am now practicing as a solo attorney, and I run a business that provides consulting to aspiring lawyers. I can offer assistance with the Multistate Bar Exam (MBE), Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam (MPRE), and the Texas essay subjects.

Chess

I have been playing chess since I was 8 years old. My dad and I used to play in the evenings, and I fondly remember the first time I beat him.

In college, I honed my chess skills as a member of the Internet Chess Club. I logged hundreds of hours of play, and my rating was in the 1600s. I am a huge fan of Yasser Seirawan's books, which I use to review with my students.

College Counseling

I taught SAT prep for The Princeton Review for about five years. During that time, I taught our retail course, and I also taught a school-based SAT course at a public high school for two years. I have taught over 1,000 students in SAT prep, and a significant part of my job involved college admissions counseling. I helped students complete applications, draft personal statements, and design resumes. I also performed private tutoring for a few students, which included college admissions advising.

Genetics

I earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Notre Dame, and I attended graduate school in the biology department at UTEP, where I also worked as a laboratory Teaching Assistant. I later taught MCAT biology--which includes genetics--for a major test prep company for 10 years. I currently teach Organ Physiology at Southwestern University.

LSAT

I taught standardized testing (LSAT, MCAT, and SAT) for 10 years at a major test prep company. I have an official LSAT score in the 99th percentile.

MCAT

I taught MCAT prep courses for The Princeton Review for about 10 years. I started teaching MCAT Biology in the early 2000s. I later began teaching the MCAT Verbal Reasoning and MCAT Organic Chemistry classes for The Princeton Review. I have an official MCAT Biology score of 12. I also teach biology at the university level; I am currently teaching Organ Physiology at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas.

Public Speaking

I have been teaching and marketing for over 10 years. During that time, I have honed my speaking ability, and I have lectured all across the country. In fact, I have lectured at 7 different universities in Texas, in addition to the Duke University School of Law and the University of Minneapolis Law School. I have also conducted poster presentations of my science research, and I taught at several public high schools in Texas.

I understand how to entertain and educate a crowd, and I am a good skills coach. I worked for 10 years in the test prep industry helping people prepare for stressful events, so I also understand the psychology of performance anxiety.

Highly Qualified Tutor for Dummies - Instrumental for Success

When I first saw Keith's impressive profile, I was hesitant to hire him because I thought it was "true good to be true." Someone of his caliber couldn't possibly want to waste time tutoring struggling students. Nothing could be further from the truth. Keith is awesome and more! I am a pre-med student and concurrently taking difficult science courses, Genetics and Organic Chemistry. Keith was
